Hey there,

Here is a cool, notated arrangement of Over the Rainbow I found not too long ago. I am the person playing. Any stylistic suggestions?

Anybody else have any suggestions on cool, notated arrangements of standards?

Peace <3

There's a good one in the ABRSM 2016 Level 6 book; here's one recording (not my own -- I'm working on it, but nowhere near finished yet):

Hi Mickey

Firstly well done. My only criticism is that it lacks a bit of smoothness, i.e. the dynamics are a bit jumpy.

I highly recommend Nikki Illes 4 volumes of sheet music (each with CD of her playing it):

Jazz in Springtime
Jazz on a Summers Day
Jazz in Autumn
Jazz on a Winters Night

These contain notated versions of Jazz Standards, standards (including a lovely version of Over the Rainbow) and Nikki's own compositions. All the arrangements are inspired by great Jazz artists. Written out solos are included and the standard is in the grade 4 to 7 ABRSM range I'd say.

My only criticism is that chord symbols aren't included, which would be helpful for your own improvisations.
Nikki is a professional British Jazz pianist who contributes to the ABRSM as well.

Cheers

Simon, I think it's "Iles" -- one "L".

Books available from multiple sources, and thanks for the tip!

Hi

My mistake, yes it's Nikki Iles.

I like these two versions of Over the Rainbow the best:

The Jarrett version is available here and other places on the web:
