Hi,

I am currently looking for a digital piano and need to decide between Roland fp30 and Kawai ES110.

However, they sell a Roland fp25 at bestbuy here in Canada (the same model seems to be available at costco in the us) which is 100$ less CDN compared to the fp30.

I can't seem to find any specs for it except that it is apparently the same as the fp30 but without the bluetooth. Bluetooth is not really important for me and definitely not worth 100$.

Does anyone own one or have more information about this model? Are there any other differences? I am especially interested in knowing support for "continous half-pedaling" which seems to be fully supported on the fp30 but only partially on the fp10.

Have you considered waiting a few weeks and taking a look at the Casio PX-S1000, S3000? Those are incredibly impressive, especially the latter. In Canada, they're likely at the same price point you are looking at, or close. (sorry! I didn't answer your question - although my family does own both the FP-30 and ES110. )

I actually emailed Roland a few months ago and they replied that there are no differences between the FP-25 and the FP-30 except for the Bluetooth. But I would suggest you email Roland specifically about the half-pedaling, just to be certain.

Presumably this model exists to allow a lower price without upsetting the "regular" dealers too much. And then again the Bluetooth might be quite important to some customers.

But if it's not to you, go ahead and save yourself the $100.

I don't think a Bluetooth feature is too important for playing piano.

They did a Hp603 without bluetooth, and it started selling right cheap. Then they brought out the HP603A with bluetooth and . . . back up went the price. You can no longer buy the 603.

Pete, the original HP-603 did feature Bluetooth, but it was Bluetooth MIDI only. The updated HP-603A improved this by offering Bluetooth MIDI and Bluetooth Audio (I'm guessing the 'A' indicates 'Audio').

For what it's worth, it's probably possible to add Bluetooth connectivity to the non-Bluetooth FP25 using a USB adaptor, such as the Yamaha UD-BT01, although I have no personal experience with this combination.

My son is playing on Roland FP-30 for one and a half year (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oF64g8nh1Ck). No problem with studying piano and switching to Yamaha Grand piano at the Musical school.
I had easily connected it to my PC by USB cable and use almost all Computer programs to enhance studying (free Musescore is awesome). But I failed to connect FP-30 to my Windows 7 by Bluetooth. MIDI by Bluetooth is supported by Windows 10 only. Also, you cannot pair Bluetooth headphones directly to FP-30.
For us the Bluetooth in FP-30 is useless.

and macOS 10.10 and Linux.


Digital pianos are only Bluetooth audio sinks, not sources.

I bought kdp-70 unit. It is a little bit stiff compared to an old upright piano but similar to a new Grand Yamaha. I had to install 5cm high rubber legs to raise pedals up and put them farther ahead from the handmade stand. Now my Roland feels just like an acoustic piano in the classroom at the school.
