I had the opportunity to play a S&S Model D Spirio Record at our local dealer over the weekend. It was sitting on the showroom floor, fresh in from Astoria where it was selected by a local customer, awaiting final delivery to the home. It's the 2nd one to be purchased locally in our area by private individuals. The salesman let me record on it, and then let me record it back on my iPhone. He's going to export the files to .mp3 from the Spirio iPad app also and send them to me. That will be interesting to hear how those turn out.

My impressions? On the piano itself, this D is pretty powerful and was voiced very well for my particular taste. In my opinion, the owner got a nice one. But the regulation did lack a little. The piano felt stiff and off balance especially in the bass. I had to dig in a little deeper to get the keys moving which I then seemed to "overshoot". Therefore, I was picking up some ghost notes, etc., so I tightened up and became a little timid with what I tried b/c it was being recorded and I wanted to share here. (You'll hear some of that if you listen with quality speakers or headphones.) I'm so spoiled with my WNG action on my own S&S B. I had also spent a lot of time playing my own piano and some others at another showroom in town as well. So I felt like it wasn't that I was just having an off day. Another thing you'll hear, is that some dampers were sticking or dropping slowly. That's evident at the end of the 2nd video after I release the pedal at the end. All in all, it's a great piano in my opinion. It just needs a little regulation. I played the brand new Model B sitting beside it afterwards, and that piano was a dream -- voice just as nicely as the D, but the action was perfect -- a lot like my own B at home.

On the Spirio system, well I'm no expert on modern player systems, but I thought it did a very nice job, in reproducing exactly what I played in -- flubs, ghost notes, and all. I watch the salesman set it up, and the user interface on the iPad was very easy to use. He was showing me the piano roll sytle editing features as well. We just didn't have time to use them on my mistakes since it was the end of the day. I highly recommend it if you like Steinway pianos have an extra $212,000 laying around. grin thumb It will interesting to see what the pricetag is on the Model B or the Model M (if it becomes available). I wish it were an aftermarket option to current owners of Steinway pianos. I might consider it.

Thanks for the first hand impression. When I looked at the Spirio Model B last week, the sales manager said the new Spirio R Model B will sell for about $157,000. Not due to arrive until the end of this month (Feb 2019) or next month. I'm in the SF Bay area.

That price tag is simply breathtaking! For a B! Yikes! Maybe I could convince my family it’s an investment. Better than the stock market! We can invest some of our retirement savings and get this.....I can play it instead of having stock certificates or gold coins in the safety deposit box! An investment I can enjoy each and every day! Hallelujah! 😁
****sorry Piano World friends ****** I was getting a bit snarky after a few weird posts. I’ll try to behave again.

I saw D/ Spirio a few weeks back at NAMM. It was in the foyer outside the main piano rooms on the third floor. Not as noisy as downstairs but still far from an optimum space to hear it.

I had the pleasure of meeting and speaking with Piano World member Bob Snyder, who was overseeing the proceedings.

Good to hear it in a more favorable environment and nice playing too. Thanks for posting it.
