What’s the purpose of the friends list? I see some people have friends on here and others don’t. Just wondering what that clicky does? And why don’t I have any? frown. (Pls don’t answer that!).

The forum software has a number of features whose purpose would be more apparent if the traffic were much higher. For example, your friends list gives you a direct link to a list of those users you've friended. You can select them there to send private messages, including groups of those friends too. You can also pull up a list of their posts, in case you want to see what they've posted recently. As it stands, it's not too hard to do those things through other means.

If you've friended someone, your ID and avatar will appear on thier profile as a friend.

I didn't know that there was a friends' list. Perhaps I don't even want to know how it is accessed. As it is, some - but, fortunately very few - threads read like exchanges in a social media chat room. As the unofficial, self-appointed curmudgeon on this site, I might ask if we really need to link "friends" on PW.

Regards,

Is there a scale? Just so we can pick the proper degree in the future, can agree on an ordering of the following: curmudgeonly, sour, petulant, cranky, grumpy, quarrelsome, testy, choleric, crotchety, ornery, cantankerous, surly, pugnacious, crabby?

Maybe we could start a new thread on "cantankerousity", an important topic that gets far too little attention. Plus, we need more threads. cry

Butt Bruce is right. We don't have to link friends on PW, because we're such a friendly forum, that everybody is friends with everybody. whistle

Presumably "the list" lets us know who our friends are(n't)!

Cheers!

There is also an ignore list AFAIK, Perhaps that means everyone is you friend by default if you are not on it smile I doubt it's public info in the user profile. I didn't know friend list existed, anyway, I don't use either. I've been a member long enough to know the grumpy ones, the not so grumpy ones, the nice ones etc. Either way I don't mind reading because the grumpy ones still can provide useful info.

I don't read many of the sub forums, this place seems friendly pretty much most of the time as far as I remember, but we have had the occasional tornadoes laugh

Ralph, the teacher forum can be fun and entertaining too sometimes, there are some grumpy characters there I can tell you from time to time. I think I would stay stay well away from some of them if I met them, for a music lessons anyway, that's for sure !

I do wonder sometimes if some of them have any shame with the stuff they say on a public internet forum that anyone can read, including potential students they teach, or students looking for a teacher. Background searches are routine these days, I certainly would when looking for one.

I would be handy if we had something like this for UK, but music teachers generally don't use forums here, and I expect in the US most of them don't either for that matter, they just go about their jobs without it.

Of course thanks to the helpful ones that hang around here sometimes, and do it for free.
