Kaspere,

I'm so glad to hear about the great results! This is a very common experience I hear about from Shigeru owners. Often they write to me and thank me, and say something like "I really loved my piano, but wow - it is just that much better now!"

The lesson to all high quality piano owners: Find a technician who is good at regulating and voicing, and have them do more than simply tuning once in a while! There are excellent technicians in most major cities who can do this level of work, but most piano owners don't know to ask for it! If a piano is gone through every 3 to 5 years, it really maintains the sound and touch beautifully.

To add to KawaiDon’s excellent advice, even if we don’t own a Shigeru level piano, piano owners should find talented piano technicians and have their pianos regularly voiced and regulated as well as tuned. It makes our pianos better and more enjoyable to play and helps them last for many more years!

Sorry I didn't see this thread earlier -
Mr. Otake was the MPA who serviced my SK5 in Dec 2016.
I loved it before, and even more after. He was an amazing technician. One of the reasons I bought the Shigeru was knowing it would be excellently serviced to fit the acoustics of my room, and my expectations were surpassed.
Thank you "Terry", KawaiDon, and everyone involved.
I was fortunate that my own technician was willing to spend a few hours observing Mr. Otakesan's work, and am confident he can continue to keep my Shigeru in top condition.
p.s. Even after three years I continue to get a Christmas card each year from the Shigeru team, including KawaiDon. A small thing, I know, but I still appreciate them.

At the end of the tuning the master tech will leave the owner with a little souvenir.

Here, 12 days after the regulation, I'm still very much on honeymoon with my piano! I am studying Beethoven's op.31,2 at the moment and the instrument pleasantly and very controllable renders the abrupt dynamics of the 1st movement. I am very satisfied and cannot imagine that I should ever grow out of this piano - time will tell, of course, but it is a pure joy to play (while the most obvious limitation is its size - getting past 6 feet would of course sound fuller; should I ever get a bigger room, I would perhaps consider an SK-5/6, depending on my future budget).

Previously, I've heard rumours about the MPA leaving a souvenir in the form of a key for the piano. After the final check and hand-shake, however, mr. Otake left very quickly and left only his business card. I don't feel that I'm lacking anything (the only thing that mattered about the visit what was mr.Otake accomplished in tone and action, which I am very thankful for), but perhaps I will ask the dealer if he has a spare key when I stop by.

Wow...Otake-san was just here in S.E. Asia a mere 3 or 4-ish months ago...

gave my SK-3 some attention, including brightening the sound at my request (for jazz) which opened up almost another full octave south in the LH for muddy-free lingering on 5-noted ballad comps...

since then it really has been hard to give the wrists a break...

Mr. Otake (as all of the MPAs) is a very skilled technician, I had the opportunity of playing multiple pianos serviced by him. All of these pianos were absolutely delightful.
Without diminishing the well-deserved praising the MPA deserves; Shigeru Kawai Pianos from design stand point allows the technician to do very refined work without resorting to unconventional techniques or struggle with many of the aspects that can make pianos unstable. Shigeru Kawai pianos are extremely well engineered to begin with and well- finished at the factory.

The MPAs travel from Japan to different parts of the world? Or they live in USA and travel from the city they live in to your home?
Do they come to South America? I'm buying a SK2 but the dealer said as I live in Argentina I won't get the MPA visit 1 year after purchasing the piano
