I've been reading about those Focals. But I don't think I want to spend that much.

Congratulations, I was making the same consideration awhile back and I apologize for not posting sooner but I just discovered this forum a couple days ago. A friend of mine writes for an audiophile magazine and has reviewed a number of powered monitors. While he hadn’t reviewed the Neumann’s, he was very impressed with the Focal’s so mostly based on that I got the 65’s. They’ve proved to be a tremendous upgrade over the Yamaha HS5’s my keyboard came with. I love the audio quality, the size, the looks, and the construction of the Focal’s. They’ve made playing exponentially more enjoyable. I’m looking forward to seeing your impressions of the Neumann’s.

Almost 10 times more opinions about them, than on the Focal Shapes. All opinions were almost excellent, like for example: "nothing to beat them in this price range".
I have listened A7X but I wasn't impressed so much and some opinions about fatigue of ears discouraged me too. Neumann owners didn't notice that problem - We will see.

I know, I should to listen them before purchasing but I didn't have possibilities to try them anywhere, so ...I've trusted and I did it ;)
Maybe kamikaze? I will see ;)‎

P.S. Estimated delivery 11th of February.

The Neumann KH 120s I tried sounded great! Huge improvement over onboard speakers. Ton of fun to listen to music through and even small enough for easy transport.

Beethoven, Bach -> Kawai CA-97 -> Garritan CFX Full -> Neumann Klein and Hummel 310s

Hello Everyone again smile

I am not a specialist in acoustic, studio recording and music production in general but nevertheless, I would like to write a few words about my recently purchased Neumann KH120 monitors.
My experience in this matter is just one visit in music store but in pretty good listening conditions in the quiet listening room. I listened there: KRK Rokit RP8, Kali Audio LP-6, Focal Alphas 50, 65 and 80 and Adam A7X.

As I wrote earlier, I liked the most Focal Alphas but there was an issue while playing piano, which unfortunately disqualified these monitors for me. This issue also confirmed few users of Alphas on other music forums. Then I considered Adams A7X which played selectively and clearly but still I wasn't satisfied enough, cause Adams didn't give me desirable Wow effect. I was still dissatisfied hearing bit boxy sound.
Unfortunately it was not possible to listen other monitors like Focal Shape or Neumann KH120 anywhere in Scotland. I could make a trip to London, where I could listen to them for sure but it was out of my time possibilities at this moment. So I read very carefully what users of these monitors have to say and finally I decided to buy Neumanns. Of course, I did something that I always warn everyone about and I advise against buying musical equipment without listening to it before. Don't do that!

Neumann now are standing on three-way tripods:

connected to a passive volume controller:
http://forum.pianoworld.com/ubbthre...mackie-big-knob-passive.html#Post2816098
By the way, these are my first monitors.

What can I say about KH120:
A small, very solid, matte, slightly rough, graphite color casing makes an impression of a polished stone. The large hollow of the high-pitched speaker looks like a black hole, just like from another dimension - absolutly Science Fiction. Overall, KH120 casing gives the impression a very solid construction and cause that way this monitor is often using as a mobile device.

I am currently at the stage of listening my fovorite CDs. Most of them are classical works but also some electronical music. I also played on Ivory II and Yamaha Reface CP through the KH120. Playing first on Ivory II, I did not hear this not so nice boxy effect which I heard on previous monitors, even on Adams. Juiciness, selectivity and space is incredible. I do not miss bass in my 15sq m room from them, especially playing the piano. It is audible enough and very controlled.

When I listened the second piece of 11th Symphony of Shostakovich (especially half of the second part), my hair bristled on my back. When tutti orchestra played subito piano, from fortissimo to pianissimo, I was completely speachless, literally in tears - I'm not kidding! I have never listened so rich sound from loudspeakers like this. The finale of 3rd Symphony of Szymanowski in which probably plays a double contrabassoon with double basses, sounds so real that I couldn't believe. Choirs in Mozart's Requiem, or a capella choir Arvo Part's works - I wanted to sing with them.
Now I do break in classical and I am listening electronical soundtrack from "Stranger things" series - there is power!

In sum - KH120 sounds great for piano sound and also are really good as a small HiFi system for not too large room.
I am so very excited and very happy by KH120 smile

That’s fantastic, they’ll probably sound even better as they get broken in.
