A friend of mine was gifted a little baby grand. The manufacturer is Hofmann Mignon, but I cannot find any information anywhere about this particular brand. Anybody out there in cyberspace know this name?

This is all I can find on the web plus a few recordings on YouTube.

Pierce has a whole host of Hoffman's Hoffmann's, Hofman's and Hofmann's, but none with Mignon. There's one in the Czech Republic. Some pictures and a serial number might help narrow it down.

Could it be a model of Hofmann? Mignon means "cute" or "dainty" in French. Perhaps it was just their small model.

Very good observation. The piano is less than 5 feet long, definitely "mignon" in piano speak.

I wonder how much of a "gift" this piano really is.

Yes, a not very highly rated "toad"- i.e. a piano wider than it is long- is unlikely to have any value.

Good luck with it.

Somebody wrote on my friend's Facebook today that the piano is a hidden gem and sometimes sells for up to 9000 Euro. I have to pay my friend a visit soon, this I gotta see!

The French call a grand piano which is shorter than it is wide a "crapaud," i.e. a "toad." There's the origin of the expression.
