I think we'll be with family next month, but will try to get a recording done before then.

I had a great experience with my one & only quarterly recital, but then my lessons switched from classical to church hymnal and piano accompaniment. The work load was overwhelming and I couldn't get my second piece, Pizzicati, up to performance level.

I'm hoping that with more time on my hands (forgive the pun), I'll have something worthwhile to share. Take care everyone! 😊

If I get it ready in time (I guess it's pretty close), I'll submit Satie's Gymnopedie No. 3 (yay didn't overlap with MarieJ's Gymnopedie 2!)

I think I might consider trying to send something in, even though compared to all others, I can barely play, having studied for 3-4 months and being between teachers. If I don't send one now though, I might never do! I hope we don't really have to announce what we'll send at this early stage…

You should RosemaryGirl! Everyone is at their own level. That's why the recital form asks how much experience you have. If you look at the past recitals, people submit from beginner pieces to very advanced pieces, as befitting their level.

The point of the recital is to let other people hear and critique your playing. You don't have to submit anything technical or extensive. Even a piece that is barely a minute long with 1 or more repeated sections can say a lot about your playing already.

Thanks! I signed up for that with Siciliano. Unfortunately, I now need something else to submit for the quarterly in a month . . . .

I had better start thinking about the May Recital - seems to require that much prep time!

I'm going with something mellow this time in an effort to counter the 'Rock 'Em Sock 'Em' Robot type playing I've been doing recently. Plus, as mentioned in another post, I've got to work on getting better recordings by toning down the playing a bit and not clipping the recorder. But playing the piece is the least of my worries right now as the digital 'line-in' on my Zoom H2 recorder doesn't work so I may be forced to submit another recording using the 'headphones over the recorder' method.

It's a desperate move, but at least it's creative! grin

Your "Rock 'Em" style is pretty spectacular Mr S - always one of the mind-bending highlights of these Recitals - I think many of us will miss that a lot - but, something tells me that even a "mellow" piece from you would be a fairly awesome musical performance to experience...

May I respectfully suggest one of the many beautifully lyrical romantic works of the acknowledged master of contemporary instrumental piano music - David Lanz.

As a side note I'm more than a little surprised that more of his works (and those of a whole gang of outstanding current contemporary pianists such as Wayne Gratz or Michael Jones or Spencer Brewer or Jim Brickman among others) aren't covered here much more often than they are in the quarterly ABF Recitals - it's a strange puzzlement...

Getting ever so closer to the opening of submissions!

I have a loooonnnnggg way to go with "Stella del Mattino." I'm now at the proper blistering tempo but haven't been able to play it through in practice all the way without one major blooper, which doesn't bode well at all for the Red Dot. I might have to go with my backup Einaudi piece.

I got a faster recording of my little Schubert piece, not as clean as the slower ones but I think it's the very best I can do. It's crazy how slow my hand movements look in the video, and how dragging the music sounds, when I felt like crashing into a wall at any moment while playing it! I guess my brain is just not used to speed. I also noticed heavy breathing in the recording, just the thing I hate the most when I listen to professional pianists... well the similarities end there laugh

Some of us have the same reaction when we watch certain pianists, such as this one - must be the excitement of the music or the passion of it's performance... smile
