I am looking for user experiences of vpc1 owners that regularly use the vpc-1 with an ipad?

I am creating a new fun setup, thinking of adding a vpc1 to my genos..
Placing the Genos directly on top of the vpc1.. i will be midiing it to the ipad
There is some great super cheap sounds on the ipad that are stunning
Ravencroft 275, ivory, neo-soulkeys for DP..

I want the genos direct on top of the vpc..
There are not really a lot of options, that allow this..
Most digital piano’s all have an interface on top..

I have an MP11se, Bachus and I only do iOS production. Close enough? You will need an audio interface to port the Genos' sounds to your iPad, I believe. The VPC1 has a curved top, so you will have to figure that out with a stand or shelf. There are threads here that discuss how to do it.

You are right about the inexpensive apps. Many are even free. I can answer some questions, especially about acoustics, but for the real deal become a member of audiob.us founded by Michael Tyson, the creator of Loopy and Audiobus, which enabled the first interconnection of apps prior to interapp and AUv3. It is an incredibly helpful place where no question is snided ( I made that word up, I think.

That is great that you have discovered iOS. May I suggest, if you are recording, getting Cubasis. For $50 ($25 on sale) it is totally amazing. Based on desktop Cubase it is simple, intuitive, forgiving, great onboard synth, sampler, arp, effects. A winner. Of course if your iPad is current you can get GarageBand for free, (and there are other free and less expensive DAWs) , but Cubasis works The best for me.

Pm me with questions or continue with the thread, but the audiob.us forum is a must and will answer every question in depth by enthusiasts ( fanatics). Good luck!

I am more asking about the VPC1..

The vpc1, comes with a program for setting it up with a pc (advanced settings for action curve)
Will that program be missed on ipad?
Or can i set the vpc1 up with a pc and then use it on the ipad..
Most likely not..

So i am aduming, i can only use thevpc1 in default setting with ipad?
Is that correct?

Not 100% sure because it's been awhile since I used my VPC1 with my iPad - but I think that you're assumption is not correct. The VPC1 comes with a number of velocity curves built-in. As I recall, you can adjust/customize any of them to your liking and then save them to the VPC1 to be used at any time.

You use the VPC editor to customize the curves (http://www.kawaivpc.com/en/downloads/). This a Windows/MacOS application. The curves can then be uploaded to the VPC and recalled by pressing a specific key while powering up the device. So, you can select any of the uploaded curves to be used with the iPad.

You can also remap the curve inside iOS if you wish. Midi Flow and other apps offer this functionality (https://www.midiflow.com/documentation/#routings-modifiers-note-remapping-velocity-curve)

Hello Bachus,

As noted above, the VPC Editor stores changes directly to the VPC1 itself - it's not necessary to have the editor running once you have everything configured as you wish. The VPC1 has 5 memories, which are typically used to store different touch curves, but can also store different velocity offset settings, and different MIDI channel, pedal CC, and routing settings.

One thing to note, however, is that the VPC1 cannot be connected directly to an iPad (at least this wasn't possible in the past - modern iPads may be different), however this limitation can be overcome by placing a powered USB hub between the VPC1 and iPad.

I hope this helps.

Kind regards,
James

Thank you for all the answers...

Great to know you can savethe settings inside the vpc 1...

I will have to look into the powered usb hub thing..

Needless to say the vpc1 is high on my shortlist...
