Yes, that was a ton of fun! So unbelievably amazing that we can video chat and play music like that across the ocean in 3 countries, 2 continents. Just astonishing!

The second was Piazzolla, Milonga del Angel. I have that and the Liszt (and others) recorded on my YouTube channel.

The Rach was Devine, Moo! I think it's on my "Someday" list (yes, I actually do have a "Someday" list!)

Hope to do it again soon.

The Piazzolla was very nice. I have no idea who he is so will have to look him up. The Rach I knew, but Moo : ) did it so well.

BTW, re: Consolation No. 3, a new PW member is asking about whether it is too hard for them to learn over in Pianist Corner and someone pointed out is is RCM 10! Wow. But regardless, you did a very impressive job with it. I'd think you'd want to keep this one in your fingers and not let it fade out of your repertoire smile

Maybe we'll do it again in a couple of months, as winder winds down.

With regards to the format, we spoke for most of the time, played a little. We didn't prepare much ahead of time, so it was very informal. I liked that. There was no pressure to have a perfect performance, just to play a little for one another. Moo and I each played two pieces; the others weren't yet ready but will be very soon.

Zoom was excellent in terms of formatting and video quality; it even highlighted the person currently speaking on the main screen which was really cool (I used a MacBook). It also allows for all kinds of formats (computer, phone, iPad). It was also free, but limited to 40 min. It allowed us to extend that as a trial. We could, of course have ended and resumed another meeting if needed.

The limiting factor was sound quality. On my second piece, I used my external mic, which the others said made a big difference. I'm not sure if there is a similar format that allows better audio quality......would be interested in finding out. I do suspect the limitation may be bandwidth, or bit rate / compression, but can't be sure.

Sorry I missed you yesterday. I hadn't been up long enough anyway. I did stop in to look for the meeting ID, but I guess I'm the unlucky one in that more often than not, the site hangs for me. I click on a post, go do something else, and then come back and hope the page is up.

As for setup, I'd like to use the camera I already have since it's already in place, but I'll need extra cable/software to use it as a webcam. Not sure what sort of compression Zoom applies to the feed. Does it vary between free and paid version?

Another option would be to meet in one of the practice rooms on Discord, no video though, just audio. However, the audio quality there is sometimes lacking.

I just found this feature of Zoom a minute ago. Perhaps we could try turning off the echo cancellation and post processing in Zoom. That might have a positive effect when playing music, since those features apply to speech anyways. This explains how all this works in Zoom.

I set things up with "using the original sound," and will be trying it out live with my piano tomorrow. It appears that a subscriber has to set up the "use original sound" option, then everyone one who connects in can then use the option. But if there isn't a subscriber starting the call who has turned on the "use original sound" option, then no one can use it on that call. It's Zoom's tricky way of getting people to subscribe instead of using the free service, I guess.
