I can't say how much the Roland Piano Every Day app has impressed me. If I end up with the Roland LX706 at the end of the day, I'm almost embarrassed to say that part of the blame will rest on this Roland app. It's just a really smart looking and working app.

Is anyone expecting any new apps to come out of Roland or Kawai at NAMM to compete with the sexiness of the Roland's Piano Every Day app? Having looked at the apps from all three of Roland, Kawai, and Yamaha that accompany their respective pianos, Roland is clearly ahead in the apps race smile

Roland is clearly investing in app development and leading the way. I guess that the new LX models combined with that app will attract many new customers. Yamaha's Smart Pianist is being gradually improved but they have a lot of catch up to do - and they need to be careful not transforming that app into a monetized interface to the MusicSoft website. The apps from Casio and Kawai are irrelevant at this point. Kawai offers two disjoint and limited apps that do not even support the new top-tiers models. Casio never released an app to control their DPs. Maybe Casio will release proper apps (and Chordana is not a proper app) with their new range.

Roland app looks poor quality with poor reviews. Stuck in portrait mode. Also expensive. There is nothing that should tie these apps to specific piano brands. So I wouldn't count on existence of a poor and unmaintained app to justify purchase of one device over another.

Wait, you must not have worked with Roland's new Piano Every Day app. Because what you say doesn't apply to it. And in fact, it is very much tied to the LX700s. In fact, it doesn't work with my FP30, it is so tied to the LX700s. This makes me think you never tried it.

I tried it. What I'm saying is that it is only artificially tied to the LX. A proper app has no reason to be designed this way... find another one. It doesn't even support landscape mode. Moonlight Sonata is 400 coins. Come on...
