An interesting article posted just yesterday on yamahamusicians.com. The article claims "Yamaha Keyboards will unveil new additions to product lines from personal keyboards to hybrid pianos, as well as debut an entirely new product category."

I expect:
* a DGX-670 ensemble piano with the optional 3-pedal unit of the P-125, and a few more Natural! Live! Sweet! Cool! voices
* an N1X and/or N2X hybrid piano.

I know which one this forum will get excited about, though the other one will sell a thousand times better!

Though I own a DGX-660, I'm curious about the hybrid, too!

Look at https://www.rivertonpiano.com/peoria/pianos/hybrid/n1x.php

The N1X has already its (not complete) specifications page on a reseller site !

However, on the same site, the upper model is still the N2 ! It would be surprising not to have a N2X, but it seems possible.

I've been saving to buy an N3X and was planning to pull the trigger soon... Could new AvantGrand models like N1X/N2X being announced affect the N3X price? In general, would you wait until after NAMM to buy?

I myself am getting close to get a CL645 and will definately wait until after the NAMM. Even if the prices are not affected immidiately, you may gain an argument for a discount.

Shall I take it that you're expecting an announcement of the next-generation of CLP Clavinova from the NAMM 2019 show?
If so ... I'd expect otherwise:
CLP200 . . . 2005
CLP300 . . . 2008
CLP400 . . . 2011
CLP500 . . . 2014
CLP600 . . . 2017
CLP700 . . . 2020 ???

No, not Clavinova specifically. But more products in general - leading to higher competition. PLEASE dont let them announce a new CLP -I have just finished the decision process😅

This brings back memories of N2X rumors last year just before NAMM 2019. A bunch of us were waiting eagerly for that announcement. When it didn't happen, some of us bought NV10. I am very curious to know if Yamaha will bring something new to the market as a response to NV10.

I certainly hope so! It would be great to see an "arms race" in the high end hybrid market.

Here's an idea: varying key/action geometries, so the N1X had the same action/feel as a C2X, the N2X matches the C3X, and the N3X to a C7X?

Well, one of the pianos I am considering right now as an upgrade is the NV10. So if Yamaha came out with an N2X at NAMM, I would definitely be interested. The N2 is at the same price point as the NV10 and therefore I'd assume the N2X would be at the same price point.

And why not the N1X? If Yamaha keeps the previous setup, the difference between the N1X and N2X will come down to the speaker system. An updated N1X may prove to be a better option than the NV10 due to the price. Anyway, in the EU the price of the NV10 is currently between the N1 and N2.

Yamaha will release something new; however, it will not be a Yamaha. wink

Excellent point. If the audio is the only difference, I am the last one to need a speaker system since 95% of the time, I use headphones (out of shyness and performance anxiety). I am currently considering also LX706 and CA78, both because I don't feel I need the audio systems of the LX708 and CA98, respectively. So in this case, an N1X would probably be good for me. Thanks for pointing this out! smile

There are a few (fairly minor) differences to the N2, in addition to speakers:

1. The N1 has a different control interface (like the NU1/X).

2. The N1 doesn't have Ivorite white keys.

3. The N1 didn't have TRS haptics.

4. The N1 has a different, arguably less realistic pedal feel.

No idea if these differences will be preserved in presumed upgrades to either.

Some of these differences make the N1 inferior to the CLP685, CLP675 in specific subjects. It would be time to make a better N1X.

With better speakers, TRS haptic, control interface, there would be a room for a N2X, but it would be less interesting.

Not to say - N1/N2 has 8 year old sound engine/samples. I really loved CLP685's CFX samples when I tried it in a shop. So, that alone will be a big improvement in N1X/N2X.

The N3X is mainly a N3 with an upgraded sound engine. Then a upgraded sound engine in the N1X was so obvious that I have missed to remind it.

I suspect the homegamer can fairly well reproduce #3 with a small amp and cheap transducer.

I believe the N2 is roughly $2000 less than the NV10 now. However, the N2x will likely cost more than the NV10. And, IMHO, the N1x will be less than the NV!0.
