Cool! We have a 22' Minnie Winnie that for now we just use for "short" jaunts over a period of a few days, but we'd love to take on longer trips which means I'd need to take a DP.

Where do you store your piano when not playing? Is that just sitting on top of your table, or is there a stand of some kind?

I have a couple of areas to store the keyboard (66 keys). Above the cab is a small (vertically) area that it will fit (Travato owners call it the pizza oven) - that's where I store the stand. There is storage under one of the twin beds that it will also fit. I sometimes have a small table put up and it will fit between the table leg and the side of the left bed (padded with some memory foam) or, if just a short trip, I leave it on one of the twin beds. I made a cover for it out of ripstop nylon which keeps it clean and somewhat protected.

I'm not a big fan of the DP, but it's better than not playing - since I generally travel one to three months at a time and really miss playing. If you're creative (which I know you are from your posts - you are one of the few people on this forum that I can count on to make thoughtful and helpful comments) - you can find some place in your Minnie Winnie. Or, perhaps leave your husband home... LOL

LOL, can't leave behind my driver/roadie (j/k - I don't think he reads this stuff, but just in case)! If I weren't so darn picky about the action, I could be fine with some of the keyboards with fewer keys out there. Or there's always the option of cutting off a few keys on the end of a PX-160 or something wink But it does seem to make sense to have something less than 88-keys for a little RV.

I love it xyzzyFL!

I've been trying to convince Kathleen (my partner in business and life) that we should buy or rent
an RV to see the country. And it has to be able to accommodate a DP for two reasons.

1.) I love to play and can't stand to be away from it too long.
2.) I have pretty bad arthritis in both hands (and just about every other joint) which gets worse if I don't play/practice.

And this is a recent shot of our music room...

I'm really impressed by this DIY project. So cool. Too bad I don't need a travel piano myself or else I would totally do it (although I'm not so good with a hacksaw so I'd probably need to hire someone for the 'heavy lifting' LOL)

I take a Yamaha p105, 88 keys, in my 20 foot trailer. I can't store it in the trailer, no room, so it stays in the bed of the truck, in a soft case gig bag. I use a X stand and a collapsing drum stool. The trailer has a slide-out for the couch, and the dining table folds up, so I set the keyboard up there. That pretty much takes up all the floor space. Its a hassle setting up and taking down every time I want to practice, but I would have to do that whether it was 88 keys or shorter.

That's an awesome piano!! I played one at my beloved Kawai dealer and it's just fantastic! Such great sound and very smooth action!

Congratulations on being such a musical polymath, Sam, they are not all that common. My music teacher was one; he was a highly skilled cabinetmaker, specialising in spiral staircases, and rebuilt that Virgil Practice Clavier in the photo for me. He used to take his car engine out and fix it himself, sometimes with bits and pieces lying around the living room floor next to his grand. He was also a champion gymnast in his youth, in addition to having been a violinist and a choirboy; on top of being a highly regarded professional pianist, composer and orchestra leader. Gave me an inferiority complex for years, don't know how you people do it.

So I got to jam the other night with the New Year's band (using Pianoteq). And today found a nice spot for some practice laugh with the Roland Go-Go Piano ... grin

AP650 is good for you?

I like it! If that were me, I'd do two minutes of work, then swivel around, "hop chairs" and start practising. I'd never get any work done. Perfect grin

So, I got a new piano room. It came with the new house. Actually, it is the oldest house I've ever lived in (built in 1900). Plant and piano survived the move, though about 20% damage to the plant. Poor thing spent the night in the truck, and it was a cold night in December. I've taken off about 15 leaves and others still damaged, but overall it looks pretty good and will make it I think. Precautions were taken and I think helped. The piano sounds great, but maybe a little sharp and I'm arranging for a tune. I haven't tried recording yet and just hope I can find everything when the time comes. I hate moving and this is the last one. Well, unless they come and carry me off somewhere. Until then, I'll be staying put ... loving the north and feeling good about it. Mind you, that beach picture looks incredibly nice ...

Looks great Greener! Although a 119 year-old house needs a 119 year-old piano, not that shiny Yamaha!

Thank you, Sam. And i suppose you are right. My old Heintzman would have fit the decor better. My new neighbour has an older heintzman and up here they are adored. Though, I'm thinking i am more in the mood for a small boat these days. Perhaps a canoe with flat stern and small outboard. All the sins of a true paddler, but they look like they'd be a riot. smile

I finally managed to get a decent panoramic of my piano room. Pianos don't like panoramas, LOL! The keyboard gets all weird looking when you're not perfectly level. Anyway, here we are, cat included!

Nice - I see Debussy's portrait and Beethoven's bust, who is the other bust on the Kawai?

Yes, I agree that's a really comfy looking room. Nice table for working and eating, right next to the piano (and kitchen?). Doesn't get much better than that!
