Greetings, Pianoworld! I'm new to the forums and am posting regarding my recently acquired Yamaha Disklavier MX-100B. I've had it for the past two weeks and it had been working great, but now the playback function of the piano doesn't work at all.

I've read other posts about power supply issues and I'm wondering if that's what is going on here. Unlike other posters, my piano isn't displaying any error messages.

As I said, the instrument has been working fine up until a few days ago. At that time, the piano was performing Rhapsody in Blue - this is a very technical, demanding piece. The file was being sent through the MIDI interface. I was enjoying myself thoroughly. Sadly, 30-45 seconds before the end of the piece, the performance stopped without explanation or any indications of electronic failure. Subsequent attempts to play other MIDI files was unfruitful.

I turned the piano off and left it for a few days, not thinking anything of it. This evening, I was hoping to listen to some Debussy via some MIDI files on my computer. I turn the Disklavier on as I normally do, everything boots up and I attempt to play files. Nothing happens.

I realized something was really wrong when I tried playing music from a known good floppy disk, hit the play button and nothing happened there either. The display indicated everything was normal - the bars indicating volume were bouncing on the display and the counter was incrementing.

I've looked high and low for a service manual but can't find one.

What I'm really wondering is that if the Rhapsody in Blue overloaded a circuit and blew a fuse. I'm hoping it could be a simple repair and I could get back to enjoying the player features of this piano. Otherwise, I still have a very fine acoustic piano, but will be very disappointed.

Any help is appreciated!

Good news! I resolved the issue. According to some research, I determined this model has a proclivity to blow the 250v 7amp fuse located on the power supply. The fuses are accessible by removing the bottom cover (where the pedals are). On my piano, the power supply is in the lower right. The fuses are on the outer edge closest to you, toward the center of the board.

I found two fuses, the 250v 7amp visibly burned out. Before doing any work, of course, I unplugged the piano and pressed the power button to remove residual power for good measure. Still, there are some huge capacitors in there so be careful.

I removed the burnt out fuse and replaced it with the same type. Plugged everything back in and the playback functionality was restored. What a relief!

Hopefully if you are experiencing a similar issue with your Disklavier MX100, you start by checking the fuses. A simple repair that took about 6 hours of research, but 15 minutes of actual work (and under $5).

The Yamaha group is a well known manufacturers of musical instruments from many years. But in the recent studies i have observed that they are just swapping the piano's to the customers which are out of warranty and hence they are causing some troubles to the user. The problem might be the issues related to power supply and it needs a replacement of the fuses. It is better to take the advice of the company technicians itself and give them the address of your place and ask for the service.
