There's a lot of random advice on the Internet, but I thought somebody here might actually have done the repair. Two of the key tops on my Steinway have 1 to 2 cm cracks from the front edge, about in the middle of the keys. Is there a glue which will stop the crack as well as fill it?

I have this problem with my Bluthner. I suspect that the cracks have arisen from the humidity having been too low. I am not aware that anything can be done, but I await responses with interest. If I am right about excessive dryness being the cause, perhaps you need to consider stabilising the humidity.

Greetings,
If you want to make a crack disappear, you can cut a trench where the crack is, fill with Acryli-key, sand down to level, and polish.

The process Ed describes is exactly how I repair these cracks. You have to open up the crack enough to get all the dirt out and bevel the top edge to blend in the fill. It's possible to make these cracks disappear. You usually have to polish all the keys because the process will lighten up the repaired key.
