There’s no adjustment. It’s either in or it’s out. So long as it’s not suddenly hitting something in its current position, don’t worry.

Merry belated Christmas to me. Mail delivery just dropped off a new piano bench for my NV10.

Not only is this pneumatically adjustable, which is a big bonus over the included non-adjustable bench, but it's also significantly wider, which allows me to sit with my daughter comfortably as she practices.

Let's see if the family notices anything different (I give it 2 weeks before a question arises) smile

Andexinger 75cm. I was seriously contemplating the wider duet version, but this is more than wide enough smile

JoBert, I remember from a few pics that you may have a similar model?

Yes, I have the same model, the 484 lift-o-matic in 75cm wide. That's why I thought I recognized it smile. I think the style goes very well with the Novus design. And recently (our son started lessons at the beginning of December) I've also come to appreciate both the width, where we both fit when his beginner book calls for a duet, and the ease of adjustment. He can easily bring it up to his height in just a second, and I can just as easily push it back down for myself when it's my turn.

I can't believe this thread is still going and is 75 pages long. laugh

I like to see what people are saying. I've had my Novus NV10 for about seven months, and I still love it as much as the day I got it.

I had a speaker problem for a bit, but it turns out it was caused by something (possibly a pencil I have handy) that was lying on the piano or on the music rest. Once I cleared everything from the piano, it went away. It was a distortion in one of the top speakers. I know it sounds implausible, but this is seriously what happened. Believe it or not, I think it was the position of the pencil on the music rest.

I have the piano set on "pianist" mode, Shigeru, "rich", with a teeny bit of reverb. It's set like that all the time, and I'm very satisfied with the sound. I am not bothering with any Pianoteq. Sometimes I still can't believe I can get such deep, rich sounds and light, delicate sounds out of a digital. The action beats anything short of an acoustic grand (and beats a lot of those grands, IMO).

Unless and until I could get a nice large Steinway, which may never happen if I stay in a condo, this is the only thing I'd ever need as long as it stands up over time.

Are the SK concert and SK-5 renderings in the Novus 10 and MP11SE the same ?.... thought i read it somewhere...
Because personally the internal sounds of the MP11SE simply aren’t in the league of Garritan CFX full to name one....
I only play through Sennheiser HD 650’s, so maybe the amplification of the Novus 10 does some magic to the internal sounds and limits a piano vst ?
Never played the Novus 10, so curious to know what sampleset is used compared to the other Kawai high end digitals..

The renderings are the same as in the CA series. I was never a fan of the SK renderings. The lower octaves are very muffled but the mids are gorgeous and rich which is great for classical pieces. The amplification is too weak for streaming VST outputs to the speakers imho. Same goes for bluetooth streaming.

As Tyr wrote, they are the same as in the CA series (or more precisely in the CA78 and CA98 models, the CA58 and CA48 are different), but they are not the same as in the MP11SE.

Or more precisely:

The NV10 (and the CA78/98) has two sound engines:

The newer "SK-EX Rendering" engine, which is used in "pianist mode". The MP11SE does not have this newer engine.
And the older "HI-XL" engine, with the SK-EX Concert Grand, EX Concert Grand and SK-5 Chamber Grand voices (and lots of other piano voices, and voices like e-pianos, organs, strings, etc.). This older engine is used in "sound mode". This is the same engine as in the MP11SE, but I think the voice selection on the MP11SE is different - however the SK-EX, EX and SK-5 voices are the same.

So to summarize:

In pianist mode, the NV10/CA98/CA78 uses a newer sound engine than the MP11SE.
In sound mode, it uses the same engine, and the SK-EX, EX and SK-5 voices are the same as on the MP11SE (and other voices too, probably).

Wait! If I didn't see the bench and think about for a second, the stock bench is pretty mediocre. Consider a package of $10k, Kawai should have include a supreme bench. Oh well, never mind, I was just sad for a second there.

I think each region chooses which bench to include (if any). On the kawai-global site it says the NV10 comes with an adjustable bench (presumably for Japan?).

Yes, and on the US-CAN site, it says it comes with a “matching storage bench”. My dealer gave me a satin finish adjustable bench (made in Japan) that is included with a K-series upright. He must have had it left over from a customer that upgraded his upright bench. It would have been better if it was high gloss, but with a little furniture polish it matches great.

I wanted an adjustable maestro duet bench with my NV10 - and we negotiated a price including that one instead of the regular bench. Dealers are usually happy to do that.

Thanks,
Osho

Funny story.

Tried a lot of uprights but the CA98 has spoiled me far too much. Found that I didn't really like the sound or action of most uprights compared to the CA98. I did like some of the higher end $$$ ones like Schimmel. A grand is somewhat out of the question for me.

So I ordered an NV10. Looks like I'm committed to digital now.
