Hello,

I've spotted a used digital piano and i wanted to know if it was any good, I myself do not have much knowledge when it comes to piano's. The digital piano is a steinbeck sdp-500. Does anyone know if it's any good?

I've never heard of Steinbeck. It appears to be a German company but whether they still make stuff or not I can't tell. How much are they asking?

With something like this, I think you can assume that the action won't be great compared with entry-level DPs brand new, and probably if anything breaks on it, you're on your own to fix it. So you'd have to be getting it for a considerable deal and you will have to like how it feels (or if you don't play, take someone with you who does) to determine if it's worthwhile.

Probably it's just called Steinbeck, but actually done by some of those digital piano companies in far east, like Medeli or Dynatone.

Is there a photo somewhere?

Well, it's cheap anyway. But if it breaks down, you might not be able to get any support from anywhere.

I can only find a tiny photo here...

...and it could be a lower end Dynatone.

It's some old Dynatone. Probably sounds like an older Yamaha Clavinova and may be of decent quality, but I don't think anyone here is really familiar with Dynatones. New ones are still sold in the Benelux:

Well the price is certainly a bit lower than you'll find for many new entry level DPs, so it's seems like a fair consideration depending on what you're looking for.

The thing to remember is that used DPs are a lot like used desktop computers. You probably wouldn't pay very much for a 30 year old PC, so don't expect a 30 year old digital piano to be worth a whole lot. They don't become antiques or vintage, they just get outdated and difficult to resell.

I agree with Gombessa just said, but I'll also paste what I posted on another thread a minute ago.

I'm more of a computer guy than a piano guy. My general rule with anything even remotely computerized is NOT to buy used unless

A. It has a warranty still
and/or
B. You can afford to replace it with another used or new one if it fails

So I never would recommend buying a used digital piano. Yes, some people can fix things but most people cannot and spending the time and money to pay someone else to fix things if something goes wrong just isn't worth the money saved. Save money for a little longer and buy a new one that has a warranty.
