Heya! I'm doing a small project for my school. I'd hope some of you could help me out.

I'm researching a small piano students, between age 6 - 14.

I've a few questions:

Do have the feeling most of your students choose to do piano (or other instruments) themselves, or that their parents are those who want them to play?

What are common problems parents have? Can they be distrusting to leave their kid alone with the teacher for example?

Any experience would be valuable really. Thank! smile

Age 6-14 is too wide. Narrow it down.

Age 6 is a common age to start, and it's most likely the parents who want the kids to start playing.

By age 14, if these teens start piano, it's most likely they asked for lessons themselves.

at the very first lesson, I have the students bring to me in their own handwriting, the answer to the question why I am taking piano lessons.
Sometimes I get the answer because my parents are making me.
Some I get about learning the beautiful language of music.
once a junior high boys response was, for the ladies.

sometimes the ones that have the answer their parents are making me, are the ones that do quite well, because the parents are going to invest time to have the child practice, and review the assignments.

Learning as I teach.
