Finally got my Walter 1520 in playable condition today!

After months of searching, I first gave this instrument a look and a test drive sometime back in late September. Cabinet looked good on the outside and after looking inside everything seemed to be in good shape. Very little wear on the hammers told me this piano had barely been used. When played, I of course immediately noticed it was quite out of tune, and the owner said it had been sitting unplayed for about 15 years. While this was a concern, the sound was what I was after and the price was right. I had been searching for quite some time for something like this so I took the leap and paid the guy.

A few weeks later it was delivered. It still needed some work, but I couldn't keep myself from playing it. Eww intonation, but oh my the sound... After another month for acclimation, I had the tech come out. He tuned it up. Yay! And then he stole my action. Well, steal is a pretty misleading word actually, since I asked him to take it. But it sure felt bad not being able to play while it was missing.

Then, I got my action back! And now I can play with my new piano! I'm very pleased thus far.

End of day cost for piano, shipping, and regulation: $3400. Not bad, though it did exceed my initial $3,000 budget. Overall, I think I did pretty good.

Congrats on the Walter! Sounds like you did everything right, and have a very nice piano as a result!
