Just curious what the longest time off anyone took and did it affect your level? I had classical training and played probably an hour a day until 18. Summers I took off but I don't count that.

In university I only played for my enjoyment, didn't practice at all. Then I got into jazz and got my chops up again.

If you have the training, playing piano is like riding a bike. Now I could go a year or 2 without and probably get back into it no problem.

My short answer is that it depends. What level of technical proficiency were you previously and what level do you hope to reach now ? And if you want to play jazz, there's much more than just getting your fingers and hands back into shape. Jazz piano involves using your ears a making choices as to chord voicings, harmonizations, scale choices and so on. And acquired knowledge and playing experience.

Others may have more opinions.

Fifteen years was my longest stretch. It only took a couple of weeks to fully reach my previous level.
