U-1 1983, Japan made. I have never encountered such a gorgeous Yamaha vertical in my decades searching on behalf of students. Remember iPhones cannot capture what is a LIVE and in person playing experience. And I am confident sharing my video because the student PAID for the piano so it's HERS! I did go through a long, comprehensive detailing as I did with the P-22, but once I knew how well regulated this piano was through my preliminaries, and having such a warm tone, I cut to the chase and played some repertoire, and chromatics, etc..with the iPhone at various vantage points. First laid on the rack.. then at the right end block and then a few feet away.. coming back to different perspectives. If this student had not bought this piano, I WOULD HAVE! Trust me on that! https://youtu.be/80_gRRwY56c

Thanks, Rick.. I'm glad our journey is over. It was getting a bit frustrating, but luck also plays a role.. being in the right place at the right time... a few blocks from my place. Unreal! I keep listening to the sustain on this piano.. and the voicing.. it's very addictive. In person, it feels like you're playing a fine grand piano.

I have a 1987 U3 that I love but I wonder if I should have bought a used Steinway. I’m new at this and I spent a lot of time researching it and found such conflicting information on buying a used Steinway I just gave up but it bugs me that I didn’t get one.

Now I might be mistaken but I find my U3 has a lot of resistance and I got injured after playing it for a few months although I guess you could say that I got a little obsessed after I got the Yam. However, the only other thing I ever played was a CP5 Yamaha keyboard so I don’t know. Now, my hands are numb after playing for under a year. I’ve been to two doctors, spoken to four and am awaiting nerve conduction tests next month. Two doctors told me I can keep playing, one told me I should back off and my sister who is a vet specializing in neurology told me I have to stop. Also, the physical therapist told me not to come back until I stop playing.

People on here told me not to practice while I’m injured. I don’t know what to do so I’m still practicing although I’ve back off on scales and quit Hanon completely which I was just a little obsessed with for a couple of months.

Does anyone else find their Yamaha resistant? My teachers piano is much easier to play. Thank you! Brian

It’s very likely to be Hanon, do yourself a favour and stop playing till you have recovered. At the very least stop Hanon (I would say forever) and work with a teacher. Google for Hanon and injury, you’re not the first and definitely not the last to hurt yourself with Hanon and Czerny. Very overrated in my opinion and not worth long lasting injuries.

@PhilipInChina: a bit off topic, but when did you move to Kuwait?

Do not play while you are like this ! Certainly no exercises. I knew a flautist who developed numb fingers after playing too many difficult Telemann pieces .
He stopped playing altogether for a month and his hand recovered .

It goes like this:

When you get an injury you need to stop whatever is causing it and let it heal.

If you carry on instead, for every day you carry on you add several extra days to the time you have to give up for healing. So the smart thing is to stop *now* so as to minimise the time you have to go without playing.
