Any ideas on why Yamaha would choose to do this? Could it have anything to do with the multi-channel system in the N3X?

Because the sound processor and hardware on the nu1x is likely the same used on the clp-600. The n3x uses an older design. The nu1x supports Bluetooth audio and has a usb controller with the same capabilities as the clp-600. These capabilities are not available to the n3x. The DPs that have BT Audio often use a digital internal audio pipeline. With this feature and the ability to update the system software, adding usb audio support can usually be done via software, since the required hardware and digital audio is already available. Note that usb audio is a transmission protocol/format. It is not a piece of hardware.
