I think it's his most approachable piano work, much more so than the popular Trace'd Overhead and Darknesse Visible, both of which are frequently performed by various pianists.

You can't mistake his music for anyone else's, which can't be said for many other contemporary composers who write tuneful music.

Salvatore Sciarrino has quite a bit of piano music, much of it probably a bit too experimental for a competition. But his "de la nuit" might work. He more or less chopped Ravel's Gaspard into little pieces, and then collaged them into this new piece. Looks ferociously difficult, though.
