Ydp-143 and iPhone - what can I do? #2780464 11/12/18 04:44 PM

I have a Yamaha ydp-143 and an iPhone 5s, plus a laptop running Windows 10.

I would love to make better use of the digital piano, at the moment if I want to record then I use a audio recorder on my phone which doesn't give the best quality. It'd be great to be able to record direct to the PC or iPhone, and to use the piano as an input for musescore.

It's been such a long time since I did anything like this! I've looked at the Yamaha manual and I'm none the wiser.

2 questions - those of you who use a similar piano connected to a pc or iPhone, what do you use it for? What apps or programs do you use?

Secondly, exactly how do I connect it? What leads do I need to order?

Many thanks

To record the YDP-143, you will use the headphone jack audio. You need an audio interface to record to your iPhone/laptop.

To control apps on your iPhone/laptop, use the ‘USB to Host’ jack on the YDP-143. It takes a standard USB printer cable.

In both cases, you will need an adapter for the iPhone. Normally that is the Apple Camera Connection Kit (CCK). This lets the iPhone connect to a standard USB cable.

You can use a usb cable to connect to virtual pianos (with a CCK for iphone) and get better sound than your keyboard and the possibility to record it directly in digital form... (no need for an audio interface)

Thank you so much for the straightforward explanation. It sounds like I'll be good to go once I've bought a CCK - I've found a printer lead!
