Wow wow wow! It’s here! And what a difference! My first piano was purchased from kijiji. It was a no-name piano that was constantly going out of tune. I paid several hundred dollars for it, and I had assumed it was a good piano because the guy told me so lol. Well it wasn’t the worst piano in the world, but it could be in the running. smile

Switching to the new Kawai K300 feels like I’m upgrading from a fisher price toy ten key piano. There are sounds I can make on this piano that I didn’t even know I could do. Differences in volume come out so well on this piano. I can bring out certain notes that I just wasn’t able to on the old guy. It was like the old piano was a keyboard with one volume setting.

I’m also really happy that moving the piano to my home didn’t jangle anything out of tune, since the first real tuning will be in three weeks after this piano acclimated to my home. I was worried a key or two might be off, but it is perfect!!

I am so so so so happy with my decision to upgrade. This piano is gorgeous!! And after spending almost ten grand after taxes you want to be happy with your purchase!!!

Speaking of which, the people at work are so annoying. Three separate people whom I have told I’m getting a new piano respond with “oh I just got rid of a piano”. Ugh. I don’t and didn’t want your crappy old clanger! My new piano is a work of art!

Anyway. I’m happy.

I got a shiny black. I didn’t even realize you could get it in white. That’s the only other colour I may have gotten but I think I prefer the black anyway.

Congraulations Sara Elizabeth! The arrival of a beautiful, new piano is a special joy. The shiny black finish is a perfect match for the black and white keys.
Kind regards,
Robert.

Don't you just hate that? It would take half an hour to educate them as to why the old piano they just got rid of would not be a replacement for the new piano you just purchased--not to mention that their eyes would be rolling back in their eye sockets after the first five minutes.

Congrats on the new piano! I've had mine for three and a half years now and it's still a thrill.

What kind of pianos were your colleagues getting rid of?

One of them told me theirs was an “antique”. Another coworker said that his would need to be tuned. Oh dear god no. I didn’t ask about the others. I basically explained that I was not looking for a used piano and that I was buying a really good one. Everyone seems to think their piano is really good. Even the antique haha.

Congrats! I've played the K300 extensively in a shop on several occasions. It's an excellent instrument. Feels very musical to me.

A white piano looks nice but I think black looks more timeless. Happy playing

LOL. But only a little annoying, right? After all, they aren't grinning all the way home knowing what is awaiting them when they reach home. So glad to hear your story because even after several years I still sometime break out in a smile when I sit down to play. Congratulations.

Sarah, congrats, there is nothing like playing on a nice instrument. I had bought a new YUS5, and it is more piano then I will ever need, I am only a 5th year student. I never regret my purchase even if I am not a really good player. You probably spend more time on your piano than you do driving your car. Sometimes I take a day off from work just to play my piano. People talk about TV shows and I don't watch TV, they say what do you do? I play my piano, it is so much better than TV.

Congratulations and Merry Christmas 🎁🎄! A new piano is a special gift and delight! You will really only get the applause and appreciation for your new piano and your “buying my piano story” from others who love and play piano. They-who-don’t-play often can’t understand the difference between a new, quality, in-tune, piano that can sing and their grandma’s old crappy upright in the basement that hasn’t been serviced since the Johnson administration. Rather than be annoyed at their ignorance, pity them because they don’t know the pure joy of having a beautiful instrument that they can play anytime in their own home.
They-who-don’t-play just wonder why you didn’t get the keyboard on sale at Costco. But we-who-play know and understand and are really happy for you!

If you are like me then I know you cannot stop looking at your new piano. Be patient as it can take months (in my case years) to completely stabilise and it will require several tunings during the first year.

One piece of advice if you piano is like mine and has a High Gloss Black finish. Only use a feather duster to remove dust and use a microfibre cloth with Cory High gloss polish, which you can buy on this site, to remove finger marks.

Enjoy,

Ian

It's great your piano arrived in tune .A friend of mine bought a new Yahama U1 and it arrived straight out of the crate totally atonal ! She complained to the dealer and they came and tuned and prepped the piano .When playing it I noticed some of the upper treble had a metalic sound .I suggested she ask them to do some voicing on the instrument which they did with the next free tuning.Enjoy your piano I am sure it's a lovely instrument.
