So long as it plays ok and complements the surroundings then why not ?

Please see the piano designed by Charles Rennie Macintosh.

It's the James Webb space piano!

Looks like it was 3D printed.

I have no opinion about the appearance but I'll bet the moving would be a nightmare. And case repairs would be really tricky.

Fazioli certainly knows how to promote the company with these one-off designs!

It was spec'ed to suit the interior of a an arty, high end hotel not your replica of a vienese ballroom. Horses for courses.

The design commission was to reflect the architecture of the building. I think the stacked wood captures the appearance of the open balconies, and the solid areas reflects the windows of the offices. I like the building more than the piano, but I'd say it did a pretty good job honoring the design request.

I can manage to agree with the bit about the building being less unlikable than the piano ...

It is a desecration of the inherent beauty of form of a grand piano.

Kind regards,
Robert.

I think it's ghastly.

Over-the-top custom Faziolis like this surface periodically in puff pieces and videos. If interior decorating is your thing, then more power to you, but these clearly are not about musicianship.

it looks very like Kengo Kuma's design for the new Victoria and Albert museum here in Dundee.

https://www.vandadundee.org/news-and-blog/blog/opening-date

Perhaps they could loan the piano to the V and A for a while and curate a concert series there.... The concert hall here just bought a new Steinway D though, not a Fazioli (I haven't played it).

I like it a lot except for the piano parts. The keyboard, music desk, castors, lid prop all look inelegant with the rest of the case, to me. I think it would be a beautiful piece in the right environment otherwise. Maybe it makes more sense with the lid down folded over the music desk and the fallboard down.

Despite some daring designs, there comes a point where the finish of a piano will start to distract from the music. Of course in those cases where the music plays a secondary role, it doesn't matter. Not meant to be negative.

Wild. Interesting to see that Fazioli is getting into the art designs. The piano reminds me of the Regalia building in Sunny Isles Florida:

Harkens back to the old “piano as a piece of matching furniture” idea. Not a fan. If however it really sounded and played like a high end Fazioli, I could overlook it’s wierd ugly design and would enjoy playing it. As long as I didn’t have to dust it 😎.
