Are you asking if we lost it?  I remember seeing such a thing in a catalog somewhere. It is too fiddly for me. My setup allows me to bore a set of hammers in about half an hour, including set-up and length and angle changes.

It is a hammer boring jig for duplicating the shank angle of an existing one. There should be pair of guides, one a half and the other a whole one, that are used.

It can also be used to duplicate boring on a vertical hammer butt. Takes a little doin but works okay. I have one. Have not used it in a long time (ever since I learned how to effectively REMOVE the shank remnants from the butt or hammer).

I found it listed in a "62 Tuner's Supply catalog for $31. About $270 today. It makes sense now. The half guide is the part that I am missing. I'm sure it will turn up, now that I know what it is. It will make a nice addition to the tool museum; and one that is not a "tool of shame".
Would any of you have a copy of the instructions?

It was designed for on site use and is a nice tool, but a bit fiddly. if you are missing a hammer its good for replicating a neighboring hammer angle. It -may- have come with drill bits but I'm not sure. As I remeber you use the half piece to alighn the drill bit using a neighboring hammer/shank,butt,, then replace that with the solid pice to guide the drill bit. The tool is no longer available but there is a cheaper, lower quality version available these days. i remember it as being somewhat expensive. I have one and I'll check to see if I have the instructions in the box.

Yes, it came with a 7/32" drill bit with a stop on it. Absolutely a well thought out and well made tool. Clunky at first, but once you get used to it (and make sure all set screws are TIGHT!) it really is pretty good. Bought mine probably in 1975.
