This is a recording from a concert that was a part of the 2018 Steinway Piano Festival in Hamburg. Hope you enjoy!

Hi, Vilhelm! Many thanks for sharing this -- your rendition of this late masterpiece was SO musical, as opposed to only being virtuosic. It was definitely a thinking man's approach, and served to demonstrate how wonderful and keen Debussy's sensibilities were in writing for the piano. I sensed a very respectful, genuine applause from the audience, and well deserved.

Incidentally, I'm jealous that there are such things as "Piano Festivals" in Hamburg, as opposed to "Competitions". I've been involved over the years in Amateur Competitions, but wish there were events that financially could support Festivals. I've noticed that Julien Kurtz, in France, has embarked upon that venture in the Amateur world for several years now, and so such things are possible. I only mention this because you had raised the question "WHY competitions?" in another thread very recently.

Thank you! In my opinion musicality always goes before virtuosity. Doesn't matter if it's a Liszt etude or a Beethoven sonata. When playing, my goal is always to make the piece as interesting as possible for the audience.

I agree with you. Piano festivals are a great opportunity to be able to play music with other musicians without having to compete with them. In competitions your goal is to play as perfect as possible, when in reality music isn't about that at all!
