There was uproar when he didn't make the Cliburn finals a few years ago. I think he's certainly worth going to see.

.....and then a mild uproar over quasi-conspiracy theories on the part of his camp about his not going further.
Maybe he himself had nothing to do with it -- maybe it was just his management or agent or some such, or someone pretending to be that.
The notion was put forth on Facebook among other places.
His playing was felt to be compelling by many, and interesting by almost all.

Well that’s fortunate! He’s playing at the small university a mile away from my home. Walking distance (1/2 mile) if I could wade through the alligator strewn canal.

.....if I could wade through the alligator strewn canal. Some people would liken his playing to that!  Just curious: How long walking distance if you don't? (Maybe it's one of those "You can't get there from here....")

1.5 miles maybe. Very close. This is FL though. Nobody walks anywhere. Everyone is locked inside their gated community. (I hate it here.)

Y 1.5 miles maybe. Very close. This is FL though. Nobody walks anywhere. Everyone is locked inside their gated community. (I hate it here.) Maybe you should move to the small town, west coast of Florida .... no gated community for me . I hate them, as well.

I haven't seen him in person, but I liked his playing in the Cliburn, and his Alkan CD is good, too.

I've seen him in person. Detailed, interesting, emotive - very, very compelling. Worth seeing.

Well, he was very good. Played a nice set, Liszt Sonata B min, Chopin Sonata 2, and some shorter pieces. The facial expression thing was a little odd. Seemed like he was miming an opera version of the music.
A few audience members took to applauding during brief pauses between the movements, or even with the movements. He didn't seem to bothered, but was careful not to move his hands too far from the keyboard after that. .
