I'm looking for purchasing a used upright piano, and this is coming from a piano store. There's one piano Kawai 803t (built around 1987-88) which is maintained really good. The tune is great (I like it better than a new Yamaha upright). It looks very new and clean even inside. But this is my first time looking for a actual piano (I was using a yamaha digital before), so I really have no idea about the model and pricing. I know Kawai is a good brand, but not sure about this model, plus what will be a good price for this? The store is selling at $4000+ (including tax but not delivery), how much should we actually ask for?

Please advice. Thanks!

belljay,

Welcome to PianoWorld.

I think it all depends on how much work has been done to the piano and what kind of warranty is being offered. Is the piano being sold as-is? Was it fully reconditioned? If so, what work was included in the reconditioning?

I think $4,000.00+ for this piano (30+ years old?) is steep, unless there was more work performed on the piano than normally happens at a dealer. But then, if there was an unusual amount of work done to the piano I don't necessarily think it would increase the value to 4k+.

Can you tell me anything more about the piano or work performed?

Keep us posted and good luck,

Thanks Rich.

Just a little update on this. The piano is indeed very good. But after doing some researches, I think it's overpriced. It's probably going to be around $2000, and given the good status and maintenance, it can probably be up to $2500 (single owner and annually tuned, no major work done to the piano). The tricky part is that no warranty included, as the piano store is going to close. Therefore, I didn't end up purchasing that.
