Hi,

Browsing the local online classifieds for a 'project' piano and came across this which I've not seen before. Can anyone shed any light on it?

It looks reasonably recent given the design of the practice mute and plastic front cover bracket.

What does the listing say? Very very odd.

I am betting the black keys are the naturals (A, B, C) while the white keys are the accidentals (F#, G#, A#) with the red keys doing nothing. It would be a very different fingering for the scales!

The white and red keys form a whole tone scale with the red keys being the visual location indicators. The black keys form the semitone-interleaving whole tone scale.

I found this while Googling:

www.balanced-keyboard.com

I wonder if this piano keyboard is a diy job. That could be why there is no brand name on the plate or fallboard
A manufacturer might not want its product associated with this modification.

Not sure about DIY - it has 87 keys and none of the keys or keytops look to be modified from that of standard piano. The complete ad just says 'beautiful piano and stool' for $300.

Here is the ad in full:

very odd upright.

I haven't had a chance to look over the whole Balanced-keyboard.com website. But. I did quickly scan this:

Quote
scales and melodies in every key.

The Balanced keyboard is currently not a commercially-available product you can buy in your local music store. However, you can build one over a weekend by modifying a standard electronic keyboard, an operation which requires only a basic level of DIY skill - see the Build One section.

That's why I guessed the keyboard might be diy. It could also be a custom keyboard that was sent out to be manufactured. I could not find a brand name. So, I'm "guessing" the stencils might have been removed.

Then again, I could be wrong.

Edit:. I don't know if there might be legal ramifications in your country if a major modification is made to a piano and then represented as the manufacturer s product.

I count 88 hammers, 43 black keys, 29 white keys and 15 red keys. Cool, there is one note you don't have to tune!
