37. Melody by Dmitri Kabalevsky in C Major C. 24 Pieces for Children, Op.39. Teaching Concepts - Balance between hands; smooth legato in the left hand

38. Baroque style: James Hook Gavotte in D Major; Source - Adult Piano Adventures by Nancy and Randal Faber, book 2

I picked up Kavalebsky Op.39 and I really like it. The first few pieces are below my level, but they do eventually get pretty difficult. I really like them! I am planning to finish 12 oot of 24 by the end of this year (the last twelve will be spread out across the next few years)

The Gavotte piece has been taking me quite a while to learn. It is challenging. Unexpectedly so. Now I should expect this more wink

October has been another bad month for piano, but every bit counts. This challenge is really motivating me this week as I think if I push myself I can just make the 40 pieces. I plan to learn mostly 1 page pieces below my level to make sure I get to the 40 piece goal. I just finished a practice session and tried a Grade 1 RCM piece. I am shocked how easy it was to start with hands together, decent pace with hardly any mistakes on the first try.

While working on some other, larger projects, I decided I needed a few smaller pieces on the side, for fun, and in the spirit of this challenge. I found a Martha Mier book with easy/medium romantic pieces and picked two. My #20 is the first of those: Enchanted Waterfall.

Hi there! I didn't forget about this group. I've been working on my 40 pieces but was trying to make a goal of recording each one. I'm taking lessons, and we keep moving on to new pieces before I'm able to get a good recording. I just cannot keep up. I have very limited time when my house is quiet to get a decent recording. When that time is over, there are just too many disruptions (family talking, going in and out of room, dog barking, dishes clanging, TV being on, countless beeps from dishwasher, oven, washing machine, alarms). cry Ugh, the struggle is real. Anyways, being 10 months in, I don't think I'll ever catch up on recording each piece. frown Also, I seem to have lost a few recordings. I have them checked off as recorded, and I REMEMBER recording them, but I just can't seem to find them. So frustrating! Anyways, I've linked the recordings that I was able to find.

Three more. I started A Thousand Years by Christina Perri and was very excited that it was doable - and not even a modified version! However, after learning two pages in one week and having my teacher play it full speed I realized that it was not the television version that I wanted. I hadn't realized that piano solo can still have various sheet music. It's very heavy on the bass clef and doesn't have much of the melody. So I rushed through the second half for the sake of this challenge and am moving on to something else.
