I know the CP300 is a fair few years old at this point but is the MP11SE that much better? I'm mainly concerned with using it as a home piano for practice and playing rather than gigging with it. Thanks for any opinions.

I think you'd find the MP11SE a huge upgrade over a CP300. You'd be moving from an "acceptable" action that is now the second to last in Yamaha's lineup, to arguably the best non-hybrid action available today (and the best action in a portable piano, bar none). In the sound department, Yamaha's older AWM-2 engine in the CP300 still sounds decent to me, but it doesn't have the long decay samples and long sustains of the HI-XL engine in the MP11SE.

You'd be losing those crazy powerful built-in speakers, but you can always use headphones or get external monitors.

I moved from an older Yamaha DP to an MP11 a while back, and never regretted doing so.

Wan't the CP300 released in like 2006/7? It is a very old stage piano. I'm surprised that they still sell them.

Yamaha neither upgrades nor discontinues this instrument. I don’t get it.
Yes, it has mammoth speakers, but that’s about it; especially when compared with newer boards boasting wooden actions, physically modeled resonances (P-515, etc...), synthetic ivory/ebony (again, P-515). Heck, the P-515 even has a built-in audio interface.
Now that I think about it, the P-515 is about half the price of a new, yet 10-year old, CP-300.
Is the CP-300 twice as good?

Thanks, yeah i was confused because the price of each is relatively similar which made me believe they where comparable items. I have looked as a lot of MP11SE videos and it seems to get rave review. Would i need much more than a decent pair of monitors for these or do i also need some type of PC software? Thanks.

Yes to monitors 5" to 8" should suffice based on size of room you'll be playing the MP11SE in.

No to any software requirements, at least out of the box (it has built-in sounds & very good ones if I may add, as I played it via headphones a few days ago and thought it was the bee's knees)...maybe later on if you find you prefer to use other sounds.
