Dear Friends,
I'm trying to repair and regulate an 1880s Weber grand for a friend. What a design...wooden action brackets, and the wippens are attached to the keysticks so you can't just lift the stack off without unscrewing 176 screws, two for each key. Do you have any regulation tips? Taking one of these assemblies apart to Protek a flange takes six minutes for each one. I'm trying to adjust the height of each wippen but of course, there is no screw for that.

The wippens are probably connected to the keys through a rocker capstan, which would have a screw at two places so that by adjusting them, the wippen is higher or lower. Those may be the two screws you are talking about. The wippen usually just snaps onto the rocker, with possibly one screw to hold it in place. But with old pianos, who knows what they did? Photos might help.

The whippens might clip onto the keysticks individually. Try a little pressure on one and see if it unclips.
