He got a piano that he enjoys. Rather than worrying about all the details he tried various digital pianos and picked the one he preferred to play. I don't see anything wrong with that, and among the piano players I know personally, most seem to be more like that than digging into al the details of what is inside the piano. You can take from my earlier post what you want. I don't see anything to argue about, it is just another perspective. Simple as that.

Now that Roland has introduced this groundbreaking technology (PureAcoustic Ambience), I wonder what will happen to good ol’ reverb.
I can no longer use reverb without feeling like that guy still using cassette tapes.
Damn you, Roland! Why did you have to make reverb obsolete with this space-age technology called PureAcoustic Ambience!

You can use reverb as a retro effect now and be so retro that it's actually cool.

Thanks for that perspective. The retro effect seems like a viable alternative to this modern world we’re living in: no headphone jacks, no CD players, and now, thanks to Roland, no reverb.

Good evening chaps, just on my way back home after a busy afternoon at the “Gakki Fair” in Tokyo. I had a chance to play the new LX models, and speak with some of the R&D and product planning staff. Everyone was very kind and friendly, and they were happy to answer my otaku-level questions.

Cheers,
James

Shhhhushhh! Don't tell everyone. We need people to have that niggling doubt about their latest DP purchase otherwise they might be happy. What a terrible thought.

Kawai also dropped the "reverb" term for "ambiance" in its SK-EX Rendering engine, right? I assume this may be because makers are doing more with the setting than just applying a reverb filter....

Gombessa, keep in mind that Kawai uses ambiance whereas Roland uses ambience; the difference is like night and nightish. So yes, I’m all for ambiance. smile

A better expression would be a reverb effect.

The English Wikipedia filter page tell about removing or attenuating some part of the signal (like high-pass, low-pass filters). The French page admit the use of the term when the filter accentuate something (we can think of EQ, low pass filter with resonance).

Time for some passive aggression.

James,

If you hate the new Rolands, that's ok. We know you can't really say so without appearing to diss the opposition.

Am I bad?

James' silence might be for the opposite reason!
