The native sound from most digital pianos is pretty poor.
I think your problem is not with the speakers at all.
It's the piano's tone generator.

My own experience is that digital pianos with a full cabinet give a more complete sound than slab or minimalistic cabinet, when using the integrated sound.
I remember I have tried Roland F-130R and RP-401R in the same showroom, side by side. With headphones I could feel no difference.
I have not tried external amp but most likely there would have been no difference either.
With integrated sound the difference was shocking.

I guess it is simply physics: the weight of the vibrating body counts.
