Hi all, I am in the process of purchasing a used piano for the family, primarily for some classical practicing for parents and beginner training for our little one.

I came across a used Bernhard Steiner 46" upright for about $1000, used with about 15 years of age. I have not look at the actual piano yet, but if it is in quite good condition, may I know if this is the right price for this used piano? The owner claimed the original priced paid in Dallas was about $5000 but I am doubtful of that.

I read on this forum that the earlier B Steiner was built in S Africa, and later Korea and China, should the price reflective of where it was made?

Is B Steiner a relative good brand? Any B Steiner owner out there can provide some experience/review?

Thanks all for your valuable advice.

Bernhard Steiner was a stencil name Samick used/uses. Built in Korea then Indonesia. Analagous to the Conover Cable stencil. They were/are something less than the Samick branded product. Confirm the age and model. Have a tech check it out. $1k seems fair if all else is in line.

Dallas
I think this brand was owned by the Kahn family from South Africa. Mr. Kahn from Encore Pianos in Dallas (Carrollton) may have sold it new and probably could tell you about it. In fact, it would probably be worth your time to see what uprights he has for sale. He's a charming and knowledgeable gentleman.
