The bottom two notes of the Eb major chord are normally played slightly ahead of the rest of the chord and held with the pedal. It is important to maintain the movement of the melody line to the end of the phrase. Practice the timing of the right hand without the bottom two notes first to get the idea of the phrase, then add the remaining notes without changing the timing of the phrase.

What a fun, and beautiful, song. I learned it but it took quite a while...a lot of big chords, a lot of movement. Well worth it in the end. Measure 6..(just checked)... I roll this chord, both hands...that's how it was written in my score, and that's how I learned it.

Around 20 sec in...

Not that I'm any expert. Hope it helps though.

It's a simple single chord. Nothing to be played separately, no "first note".

I played it very long ago.

You must have freakishly large hands if you can play an octave and half. I would think that most mortals would not be able to manage this chord as written.

I just checked to see how I play it. I hit the low Eb with my pinky, then play the chord with my pinky on the B-flat, 2nd in G, and 1st (thumb) on the next Bb. Still roll it though.

I listened to your recording and you very clearly arpeggiate the entire chord, so there is a first note.
