It's Fun to Play the Piano ... Please Pass It On!
Ah... we dont have lessons every week and then we go down this road we spend about 20 minutes in a lesson choosing a pieceas I am big mr fuzz pot. I dont think is is a great use of lesson time so I normally bring the piece. I played scarlatti cat fugue and learning elergie rachamonioff so I find it better lilke this way. I also dont have very good knowledge of musicians so find suggestions helpful. I did find a nice Schumann piece in abott 5 mins with pianoworld forum so it was good
The Schumann Arabesque is a lovely piece. And some movements of Kriesleriana are approachable.
I'm a huge fan of Arabesque, too (submitted it to one of the online recitals a year ago or so). Beautiful, with lots of variety (despite the repetition of the arabesque itself), somewhat challenging but quite playable.
Could it help you if I share with you the repertoire lists I have for my exams (which are not with RCM )?
My piano journey from day 1 Started piano on February 2016. Pieces I'm working on : - Rameau, Les Sauvages - Mozart, K545, 1st mov - Chopin, nocturne op. posth. in C# minor - Debussy, Golliwog's cakewalk - Pozzoli, E.R. 427, etude no. 6
What about his Kinderszenen, Op. 15? To me, that's Schumann's magnum opus, and it's not too hard at that. (Not too hard compared to his Fantasias, other scenes, Carnaval, sonatas, etc.)
I've started playing January 2017, Nothing is too easy is where I keep track of my progress.
I am working on Knecht Ruprecht which I call "Bad Santa." My teacher suggested thinking of it as a technique exercise and then left town for a summer gig, leaving me and Bad Santa with a substitute for a few weeks. Then I went away for a few weeks, then the substitute went away for a few weeks, leaving me and Bad Santa on our own.
I have tried to sight read piece suggested before originally. It is doable. I was a bit worried about the speed but the other versions are played at a manageable tempo.
I want to go onto play doable faster mendelssohn pieces later where I need to develop an accurate light touch and lots of control so I think the piece would be helpful.
In the end I decided to learn only the introduction to the sonata. It is a really fun piece to play so I'd recommend it. Thank you for the other suggestions, I hope to play some more later !
