Wanted the new thread to be a place where everyone can discuss all things related to Dexibell -- as one can also share recordings (if the mood should happen to strike you) and I have just completed four (4) new recordings at the Dexibell P7 -- here:

1) https://soundcloud.com/user-244524801/dexibell-vivo-grand-default-sound-chopin-scherzo-no-2-excerpt

2) https://soundcloud.com/user-2445248...-beethoven-moonlight-sonata-1st-movement

3) https://soundcloud.com/user-2445248...atinum-sound-chopin-ballade-no-4-excerpt

4) https://soundcloud.com/user-2445248...-chopin-sonata-no-2-1st-movement-excerpt

Please note the first two recordings are using the original default "Vivo Grand" and "Vivo Classic" presets whereas the second two recordings are the new "USA Platinum" and "Classic Platinum" presets, respectively. The new Platinum sounds are very large in size as the samples have more depth and nuance overall, while the original default sounds are very clear and have great resonance with extra long sustain and pedal decay.

The Dexibell P7 has been a joy to play so far!

Extra note:

Want to apologize for the lengthy dead space prior to the playing starting and this is due to using QuickTime player on my Mac in which I have to physically get up from the computer desk (after starting the recording) and hurry over to the piano, sit down and put on headphones, and then start playing -- all the recordings have been done by using a stereo audio cable between the computer and piano. I could not find an option in QuickTime Player in which to edit out the dead space -- anyway, please do enjoy the recordings!

The TRIM command is in the EDIT menu. Shortcut CMD+T. It won’t overwrite the original, and will ask to save a new version of the edited video

If your file is just audio, use the EXPORT command instead - export the uncompressed/original audio.

The Dexibell will record audio to a USB stick - surely the simplest option?

Mpianos4ever, enjoyed your renditions, well done. the default grand sounded twangy to me, the vivo grand and the chopin somewhat better. what kind of real piano is your regular instrument ? it sounds like the action responds to what you are going after, and the sound on your end is probably more life like as well. thank you.

@huaidongxi,

Thanks for the reply, and I do agree the recorded results are not nearly as good as what I hear from the speakers of the piano and using headphones gives considerably better results as for obtaining quality from the sounds. However, currently do not own a real acoustic piano at this time and perhaps next year (with additional money permitting) may be able to purchase an acoustic grand if cost is kept at around $15K - $18K (?) US dollars. There are no digital pianos that I know of that can replicate the authentic soundboard resonance of a good grand piano, unfortunately.

@huaidongxi,

Wanted to add here that the Dexibell P7 is certainly a very good portable stage piano as it has reasonable sound and a solid action that responds quite well to player's dynamics. Digital pianos can be a decent option if one cannot afford an acoustic.

M-pianos4ever, you've studied piano solely via digital pianos ? maybe at your schools or teachers' studios you've played real instruments, but if that is the case your technique (and ear of course) has developed quite well. in my market it will be very difficult to find a dexibell to test play, and dread the process of ordering one and rejecting it due to the lack of auditioning.

@huaidongxi,

Yes, I have played on a number of acoustic pianos in the past (including quite a few excellent grands as you mentioned) and did own a small Wurlitzer spinet prior to starting my digital piano collection. I have purchased all of my digitals sight unseen and have not play tested in any way although have been able to exchange them for other pianos until I arrived at a few that were worth keeping long term.

Question:

Do you play only digital pianos, or, are you looking for an acoustic piano?

Here is one of my favorite Dexibell videos by a really great player -- i.e., Ralf Schink:

He knows plenty of tunes --

Very nice demo!

M-pianos4evr, the way you play indicated to me that you'd played quite a bit on real pianos, but without confirming it, was keeping an open mind on how far one might progress without a real piano. we have a 120 yr. old tall upright and a century old mason & hamlin BB, have so far been very lucky with our holiday rentals (the last one had a 90 year old steinway model O), but continue to look for a travel keyboard.

@huaidongxi,

Have been playing on only digital pianos now since I had traded in my old Wurlitzer spinet well over 10 years ago and the while I now own the top of the line models (with two Clavinovas) there really isn't any further to go as far as digitals are concerned with the exception of an AvantGrand or Kawai Novus NV10 and I am not interested in either piano at this time.

May eventually be considering purchase of an acoustic grand piano sometime next year after additional money becomes available and think that a very good restored Baldwin might be decent choice. Keeping my options open since I may also consider Yamaha and Kawai grands and perhaps Mason & Hamlin if I can find something at around the $15K price range.

Even the best currently available digitals cannot completely simulate the soundboard resonance of a good grand piano.
