None of the information I find, gets to the point of what it is or how to use it in practical terms. They ramble on in abstract mathematical terms about existential properties within Music Theory itself (which I admit I am only just learning) but never explain how to actually sit down at a keyboard and use it to write something.

I’m frustrated. But something tells me if somebody just said “Ok so after you pick (what appears arbitrarily of your choosing) some starting notes, and draw the lines between them, then…”

Or is this system (in my music-theoryless current state) simply beyond practical application?

I don't know anything about Tone Clock Theory. But I did a little googling. It appears to me to be a method of analyzing 12 tone music. If you're not sure what 12 tone music is, you can listen to examples on YouTube. I'm wondering if you were curious because of the astrology styled graphics.

I suspect you would need instruction from a knowledgeable academic - which would be like finding a needle in a haystack. I did find the text book on Amazon. Just one used copy for about $7. All the other copies on Amazon are more than $100.

I know off a Dutch composer and professor in music composition who developed a 'toonklok' (tone clock in English) theory:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Schat

At the time I studied with a colleague of him who knew Peter Schat and his work well. According to my professor this so called new theory wasn't that interesting.

More info in English: http://www.toneclock.org/

I advise you to study classical harmony first.

Update: Thanks everyone. ✌🏽 I have since learned and understand. Its mathematically interesting brain candy, yet musically useless—and doesn’t have a real-world relationship to actual sound or composing.

🙃 🤷‍♂️ Carry on.
