I guess it's basically a short version of the P-125.

It's on Yamaha's website: https://europe.yamaha.com/en/products/musical_instruments/pianos/p_series/p-121/index.html

And there's a demo from Bonners:

That's gonna kill the business of that Italian guy who chopped down a P115 (and P125, I guess) to a shorter length, on order. Well, if he still was in business, I guess...

that’ll sell for a lightweight gig board....

seems like they could have reduced the weight a little more than 22 lbs..
guess action wouldn’t allow.

From the specs it looks like it really has only one sound (an AP)? That would make it really uninteresting I guess?

24 voices. Same as P125.

It has 24 voices including electric/electronic pianos, organs, strings and whatnot and drum rhythms. Probably the specs are otherwise identical to the 88 key P-125, so nothing new in that front, I suppose.

Wow, Yamaha is really stepping up their game lately. A 73 key hammer action with built-in speakers is a pretty unique product, especially at that price level.

thank you for the product news. i.i.r.c. Yamaha for some pianos have optional voices available for additional cost. for example, the 121/125 does not appear to have a Boesendorfer grand, though it would not be that tough for them to include it. non western instruments are a good option too. is the 125 set up to get the other voices/instruments from Yamaha, or would getting still another device while using the keyboard as a controller be required ? thanks for everyone's help, completely unfamiliar with the technology, but looking for a portable practice piano. have tried the 125 and it was good enough as far as touch/response and the basic piano sound. peace + namaste

Yamaha P series uses an old sample / tone generator not used anymore in the premium Clavinova pianos (those featuring the CFX and Bösendorfer).

The only exception is the newest P-515 model, which got an upgrade due to strong competition in its segment. But the sub-$1000 line-up seems to still sell good enough, so Yamaha most likely won't cannibalize sales of premium models.

Calling this digital piano P121 may cause a confusion. P121 was and it still is the reference of a Yamaha acoustic piano.

However, choosing a 73 keys format will please people who can’t put a full 88 keys piano in their car.

No midi connectivity. What were Yamaha thinking?

The same as they have been thinking for years, when it didn't appear on the P125 or the P115 or the P105 or the P45. Casio and Roland have similarly taken it off their lower end models.

Is there any official word on pricing yet?

I'm curious if the smaller P-121 will actual arrive at the same price as the P-125...or possibly a little higher, due to the relative niche demand of a non-88-key instrument, and high cost of producing plastic moulds for the shorter board's casing.

Kind regards,
James
