Drill 6 holes, cut sheet metal to size, mount and bend, unmount and spray flat black and satin clear



Attach support using 6 screws from the rear of the unit. Put electrical tape on sheet metal first so it's not directly rubbing metal against the back of the keyboard.



Get one replacement Yamaha music rest and slap on there with double sided tape and a couple felt pads under the tabs. Might need a hacky support bar in the back to handle a book, left as exercise for the reader.

Nothing like not having to turn the pages!

Pro-tip, use an opaque black model, frosty clear looks like crap with double sided tape. I think the drilled holes were 1/8". Make a template with paper, transfer to sheet metal. I managed to get all 6 holes on the money on the first try.

Certainly some sort of fix for this problem is needed.

My cure was the purchase of a quite cheap and very annoying music stand that gets crushed between the piano and the wall and sometimes the clips that hold the pages open fall out and go somewhere you can't reach without being a contortionist.

I wonder, do Roland realise that some musicians play pianos as well? I though they thought we were all computer programmers and "joy-stick" posers! ("Joy"... yeah, right....)

Joking (?) aside, it amazed and disappointed me that there was no means provided for holding MUSIC on a PIANO. I mean, come on, it's a pretty basic need!

All that said, and taking into account the software glitches and the nasty click as you release notes on certain voices (Acoustic bass 3 and all the tone wheel organs, to name but a few) I still love it and would buy the same again if push came to shove, I expect, although I am taken with the Korg SV1.

Of course I like the RD2000, but just how many lights do you need on a piano at any one time?

That was my first impulse, but I didn't even try because I knew piano + wall + 3-pedal + stand-alone music stand simply wasn't all going to fit nicely together. So I clipped a bit of magnetic metal to those curtains, and used magnets to hold my sheet music for quite a while (now THAT'S truly ghetto, hah).

In other news, I think a key or two on my 700NX clacks from time to time now, though it's really the least of my life's problems. I still have all 10 fingers and my eyesight and my right foot, so everything's great!!!

I wasn't referring to key noise, I was referring to voice noise that almost renders the particular voices concerned unplayable. I bought mine in August 2011, so perhaps they ironed the problem out later.

2.02 is the latest firmware ... odd they don't give a date. Assume you have to use FAT16 or FAT32 on the usb thumb drive (64-bit exFAT is a thing now, omg it's from 2006 already, time flies.)

If you mean electrified, only if the original screws and metal case were already electrified. With sheet metal and tape, the screws go in even less. If you mean by falling and slashing someone, I suppose so. I'd recommend just double sided sticky taping a wooden block with slots to hold the plastic music rest in that case perhaps (actually, that's also a clever idea ...). Not a bad idea to round off the sheet metal corners (I did de-burr of course). But nobody wins with a 55 pound piano falling in their general direction though.
