I think they had both a piano and a grand piano.
A picture of the grand can be seen on IMDb

Well, since the poor mountain folk suddenly became millionaires due to finding oil on their property, and moved to Beverly Hills CA. to a high-dollar mansion, it was probably a Steinway & Sons. Although I don't recall ever seeing/hearing anyone play it in the TV episodes.

More popular on the show was the Lester Flat and Earl Scruggs guitar-banjo duo. That duo actually helped inspire me to learn to play the 5-stringed banjo.

I think that is one of the many TV sit-coms no one knew would be such a big success. I guess you just never know what the TV viewing masses will like or not like till it's on the air. Actually, The Beverly Hillbillies, Green Acres and Petticoat Junction were all connected and on occasion some of the characters of each show would appear on the other...

Back to the Clampett's grand piano, if they called the swimming pool the cement pond, I wonder what they called their grand piano? smile

Good guess...

On the other hand, it may have been just a movie set stage prop...

I tried to post a picture but it seems to disappear. Here is a Youtube link that has it opened and the music rack visible.

Still looks like an Erard. It is interesting to see Buddy Ebsen, the song and dance man.

Robert Estrin had a video about Erard a few years back that briefly went through some of the technical features of this grand. You can indeed see the similarities with the Hillbillies’

This is probably somewhat OT, but here is a picture of Granny when she was younger. In fact, I read that she was actually younger than some of the other actors on the show and was made to look older with make-up.

She was a very lovely and attractive lady...

Indeed, that's quite commonly done. Not many truly old people have the stamina to work 14 - 18 hour days. George Burns was a notable exception, making feature films in his 90's. The insurance and completion bond folks also have some heartburn with old or frail actors.
