Really sounds like the death knell beginning for Baldwin.

The Truman Arkansas incarnation of Baldwin has been dead for a decade.

And I've been searching for a 243 model left cabinet side!

Not much would be usable for any tech or rebuilder. It is just too specific but I would have loved to have roamed around to see if there was anything interesting.

There are LOTS of benches and upright piano parts- sides, desks, legs, music racks etc. Smaller grand lids, plain and carved legs and music desks too. Complete grand and upright actions both with and some without heads on the shanks. Lots of key sets. There are only 4 upright plates with strings and soundboard, and only 1 grand plate, a model G-160, with strings, soundboard and inner rim attached. The auctioneer told me that all the other inner and outer rims, plates etc had been burned to keep them out of the wild. He suspected these were somehow missed.

The crates and pallets of spruce sound boards looked in good condition. There were molds for the plates of some Baldwin, Chickering and Wurlitzer models too. Lots of good quality wood and veneers. Even without climate control storage, nothing really looks warped or split and seems to have been kept dry.

Did you notice any of the following details about the hammers?

1. Were there damper sets included? For upright or grand?

2. Were the hammers already drilled?

3. Any mfr. identification (I noticed the box pictured said "China".

I should have sent you these requests before you went! blush

I didn't specifically note any damper sets but I wasn't really looking for them. Many sets already had hammers on them. I did notice some of the actions said Ningbo and some said Stealth Action. I also saw some were from Mexico but I wouldn't want to commit which were grand and which were upright.

The auctioneer gave me his card and said feel free to contact him with any questions. His number is included in the notice and I am sure he would be able to take more pictures for you. Very nice young man and seemed glad to help.
