I agree - the movie was very well done, but the music has always been divine - the immensity and sublimity of his output is enough to make even the most hardcore agnostic waver and begin wondering about "the hand of God"...

Do not forget about the movie Shine. That is a terrific movie in my opinion.

I remember liking "Amadeus" a lot when I saw it a while ago, need to rewatch it some time. Especially since I'm in Prague now, heading to Salzburg today for a few days. Yay!

As a Russian literature person, I also want to mention Pushkin's play "Mozart and Salieri," which supposedly inspired Shaffer's "Amadeus." Pushkin's play is very short (part of his "Little tragedies" cycle) and kind of minimalist but very powerful and can be of interest to you all, music lovers.

Sadly, you are going to miss the Salzburger Festspiele by just one week. Last year's edition was particularly nice.

It's a great movie but the title is misleading. It should be "The Demons of Salieri". It's a point of view about Mozart but if we no nothing about him, we may suppose that he was mainly an opera composer.

Too bad, but we have to be back in the Czech Republic before the festival would start anyway. I'd never been to Salzburg before, so I'll be happy just to tour the city this time.

Make a point of going up to the Festung Hohensalzburg, maybe by the cable car, and have lunch overlooking the town. It's a nice view to help with digestion.

As a pre-teen, I watched Amadeus when it first came out in the movie theaters. I really enjoyed it.

Right before visiting Salzburg with the family, I decided to show this movie to my pre-teen daughters. I didn't realize that the video rental was a director's cut, slightly different from the one I saw. My daughters were upset after watching the movie because they fixated on the gory detail of the suicide attempt and also on the scene where [ SPOILER ALERT ] Mozart's wife was made to think she had to prostitute herself. They didn't like the movie.

Too bad. Such a different experience from what I had.

Reporting from the location. A breathtaking view indeed.

Rented Shine this weekend - I actually liked Shine a lot. Great movie, good story, Not sure how accurate, based on what I've read, regarding the father's (negative) relationship with David, but I enjoyed the story regardless. Over the past 2 weeks, I've completed the trifecta:

Amadeus
Immortal Beloved
Shine
