I'm looking for orchestral strings VST with:

1. Full strings ensemble mapped across the keys.
2. Possibility to access dynamics through velocity.
3. Good velocity response with enough velocity layers.
4. All the traditional articulations.
5. Sounds realistic.

The best info I ever saw on this topic was from a thread one you started a few months ago at http://forums.musicplayer.com/ubbthreads.php/topics/2921606/1 and it ended with what looked like a great recommendation, did you ever check out those Chris Hein strings?

I can't check them there is no trial\demo version but, I cross-reference information, so with your recommendation I'll try to research about Chris Hein Strings further.
Do you have experience with Chris Hein Strings? If so I would be glad to see your thoughts about it.

I used Cinematic Strings recently for this quick accompaniment i written in Cubase for a piano recording submission in the ABF July Piano Bar Thread. The library has both a full ensemble preset with loads of articulations and then a lite ensemble preset with just a couple of the key articulations which is really all you need for live performance. I think the library sounds realistic and is very playable live.

Sorry, all I know is what I got from that thread/video link, but it looked like a god solution!

Jay017, Thank you, that looks like a good option, your video is really convincing.
Beautiful playing by the way.
Just to be sure, you are talking about this library:
http://www.cinematicstrings.com/
Right?

anotherscott, this is the only live demo of CH strings I've found:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OjlKkAFTP2c
That looks convincing, but I wish there were more demos like this on YouTube, before I'm spending 400$ dollar on a library I have never tried.

OK, I looked deeply in CH Strings site, it looks very good, but it's not clear whether it has full strings ensemble patches with all sections mapped across the keys.
Do you know something about it?

That's not the one that was given at the end of that thread of yours I linked to, so check there. There was lots of good, relevant info in that thread, so if you bailed on it before it got to the end, you might want to go back and take a look. There was also a link to a list of string VSTs categorized by which were and were not suitable for live performance.,

Nope. Only what it said in that thread and from what little I saw of the video that was linked from there, but it seemed like a good candidate from that.

Yeah I'm looking now on that thread, here the video from there:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CebyqS93sLs&t=3m23s
That seems like a full strings ensemble patch.

But in this video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4CVbbPhz2uA
This patch does not appear.
Very confusing.

And I can't find that patches list of this library anywhere, I wish there was just a trial version, even for one day...

What style of music are you aiming to play live with the orchestral strings?

Roland FP-90 - Touchkeys - TEC BC - MIDI Expression
Kontakt - Arturia Piano V - Sonivox Eighty-Eight - Spitfire Symphony Orchestra

I'm influenced by Symphonic metal and film music, that is my inspiration for strings playing.

If there's no downloadable docs on the site, try emailing the developer and asking if they can send you the manual or patch list...?

Yeah, that library.

Thanks for the positive feedback smile

I already emailed the developer about this issue before your message, but he didn't answered me so far.
But anyway, based on my research(and it was hard to find information about this library), there is no full strings ensemble patches with all section mapped across the keys in this library.
Seems like this library is not suitable for live performance after all.

Cinematic Strings 2 is my best bet right now.
Berlin Strings, some of VSL strings libraries, and Symphobia, may be good for what I'm looking for, but I can't know for sure without testing it or without get very detailed information about each of those libraries plus demos like Jay017 put here...
