Hey all, I just bought a Behringer Eurogrand CDP2000-BK off of Craigslist for cheap because several keys have sunk into the piano, as phrased by the seller. I primarily work on organs but I figured for $75 I could at least learn something. I've pulled the entire keyboard out and can't seem to find anything that would cause the keys to sink into the piano. Anyone have any ideas? I'm not afraid to tear this thing apart since it was cheap.

Possibilities:
1. Keys broken at the rear/hinge location
2. Displaced springs underneath the keys.

I removed a few keys and it looks like the metal counterweights? do not return to their original position after a key is pressed, thus leaving the key depressed. I'm at a loss here, I don't see anything out of the ordinary other than this. Any ideas? I appreciate the help.

That's just your typical Medeli piano from Hong Kong. The action is not meant to be serviced.

Have you removed any of the white keys?

Pulled a few out, doesn't seem to be anything noticeably out of the ordinary

Possibly friction has built up in the action, preventing the hammer from returning to rest. Can you remove the hammers and swap them with a key that doesn't drop, to see if the problem follows the hammer?

If there's gunk (cola, pet hair globs etc.) the side of the keys, they can bind against the other keys and cause this issue too.

Are there springs under the keys? A photo would be revealing.

Unfortunately I do not see a way to get the hammers out, I can tell this was not intended to be user serviceable.

It would be useful to get the service manual. Behringer is still in business. Give them a try.

Well, I was able to fix it! Apparently the action in this piano is just about identical to a few Suzuki pianos, so I was able to find a YouTube video on the issue. It took a few hours, but the piano is back together and all the keys are level.

This is the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nrWe-wJ-9so

Dan, really glad you got it fixed! I enjoy hearing about clever DIY solutions and folks who aren't too sheepish about cracking the case open and getting their hands dirty to fix problems.

For those who don't want to watch the video, seems like the issue is swelling or cracking of the plastic joint at the action pivot, causing it to bind against the frame and not drop naturally to rest. The solution is to remove the hammer and file or scrape the sides of the joint to relieve the pressure.
