Recently I’ve came up on Golandsky Institute teaching correct piano technique. I’m not experience player but it make a lot of sens to me. I’m interested what are opinions about this way of teaching by more advanced forum members. Has anybody have any experience with it?

I've been taking lessons with a Golandsky faculty member for several years now. I started because of a repetitive stress injury, which had kept me from playing for a couple of years before that. For me it has been really great. I not only recovered from the injury, but am able to play far more advanced repertoire to a much higher standard than I would have imagined before.

Thanks for the comments. I like Institute way of teaching. I would like to have teacher with this kind of approach but it isn’t easy in the UK. I will try to get as much as I can from materials available on line.

I don't know if there is a Golandsky instructor in the UK but there is a request sheet on the site. There may be some experienced British teachers that are finishing up the Golandsky "certification" process they can recommend to you.

Regardless, you should have an good teacher NOW so you do not get bad habits ingrained; they take a long time to reverse.

I am more of a newer player but played other instruments in a prior life. A Golandsky instructor helped me to resolve all pain and tension in my hands, wrists, and forearms.

My personal take. The "Taubman Approach" was developed principally by observing talented children and professionals, and is used to teach fundamentals to students. The Golandsky Institute does not claim to have invented anything new. I have taken lessons from 4 Golandsky instructors and all have been excellent.

There are some free videos on youtube. 2017 summer symposium videos were posted for a month then deleted; you should keep your eye open for 2018 summer symposium videos at the beginning of August.

Also there is a monthly video streaming option at 10$/month. There is an expensive DVD series which somebody at PianoWorld said has different content but I have not seen it.

There was a London Workshop in April 2018. If you don't mind traveling, there are several workshops in the US. And a one week summer symposium historically at Princeton University but at Oregon this year.

Wonderful organization, extremely high standards -- But because they're so very careful to protect those high standards, they don't certify many instructors. As a result, there's nowhere near enough of them. For instance, they don't have anybody working in the greater Los Angeles area.

Just because these teachers don't have a piece of paper certifying their official capacity DOESN'T mean they can't pass down Taubman's wonderful skills and insights to you.

Ahem (cough cough) ahem

While there are many fine teachers who aren't Taubman/Golandsky certified, we have also seen reports on this forum of teachers who claim to know the Taubman approach, but what they teach is clearly contrary to it. It's not so easy to navigate between the certified and the charlatans....

Thank you for all for some inside. I've started to use Taubman approach and have to admit that it's working.

I had lessons from Alan Wasserman for a few years and the technique helped a lot. .

I started studying this year with a Golandsky Instutue teacher after dealing with Tennis Elbow and I can highly recommend the approach. It makes sense to me and feels very natural.

Hi
I see you are in Philadelphia. Are you going to the seminar in October? I am going. It will be my first Golandsky seminar. I am very excited to attend.

Yes, I hope to go, depending on some scheduling. I have been to a number of their events and always learn a lot.
