I'm having a bit of trouble relocating what I believe is a video clip of Valentina Lisitsa bashfully responding to the question(s) of, "What do you see when you play? Do you see colors?"

Her answer consists of something to the effect of, "I see full HD! Better than 1080p!" Then she says, "It's more like [some really high number]", and follows up with the letter "p".

Does this ring a bell for anyone at all?

*Fingers crossed*

I recall her saying that she has a photographic memory, and can "see" the score while playing. The downside is that she gets confused between different editions, with system and page breaks at different places.

"Do you see colours" is a bit of a simplistic question. I would have thought "Do you see pictures / paintings/ landscapes / scenes / situations" would be more pertinent. Perhaps that's more what she meant by the "high definition" thing?

Very nice woman anyway, I notice.

Not sure if you were just joking, but in case you were serious, she and the interviewer were referring to synesthesia, which is sometimes associated with certain neurological phenomena (e.g., absolute pitch, eidetic memory, etc.).

I was serious, obviously they were talking a little more literally than figuratively. Is the question about colours on any clip that we can see?

I actually never heard her say it. I was referring to the OP's post. However, I am not surprised at all she has synesthesia. She has both eidetic memory and absolute pitch, and each of those neurological phenomena taken alone are highly correlated with synesthesia.

I must admit, I've caught myself thinking things like "This Schubert impromptu has a very sepia type sound" or "This sounds purple" etc - but I think this is more abstraction, I suspect a lot of people do this. Does synesthesia make one actually literally see colours with ones eyes?

I understand that one can also experience tastes and so forth with this condition. Is that correct?

One weird thing I have is that some sounds can make me taste a metallic taste in my mouth. You know, that kind of rust type taste. I always put that simply down to harmonic resonance or something. It's pretty rare (thankfully) and tends to be, surprisingly enough, a harsh metallic sound, often with a square-ish sounding waveform, which makes sense. Again, I suspect a lot of people have something similar to this.

Perhaps that would partially explain why people who take hallucinogenic drugs often claim to taste sound or to see tastes etc.

I vaguely remember seeing a program about this once. I think the guy could taste colours or something weird like that.

Let's see whether anyone can find out whether the statement by VL is anywhere to be found.
